I show you how to do Video Overlays. I also explain why we can’t delete strips that are used to create Transform strips.
Download link for FFmpeg: https://www.ffmpeg.org/
If you would like to use FFmpeg but you want a Graphic User Interface, I recommend you try https://handbrake.fr/ instead of using FFmpeg’s command line interface.

If anyone wants to know how to make the video see trough a bit. Just turn the Opacity down a bit. I just 0.250%
wow
is it possible to mirror a video
Hey, Mike! Thank you for the video, it was really helpful. I've been using blender for a while and have recently decided to use it to make gaming videos using a video overlay. The problem I'm having on my overlay is that it drops in framerate while the two videos play. What can I do to get the framerate up so that my reaction video is in sync with my gameplay video?
Is there a way to have a video overlay with a green screened character so that the person just appears in the corner without showing background
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D6qZY0DoJ14 if you see this intro the time lapse video is running in the background can you make a tutorial on how to set that background video please 🙂
Hello Mikeycal! Thanks for the tutorial.. very useful. I have one question though: Can I set a different % opacity on one same video? Say I want the video to be 0% visible on the left and 100% visible on the right? If so, I would need to set a separation line. How could I do that? Many thanks!
I want to know how to overlay video on video both watermaked….
Video won't overlay
so i was able to record gameplay at 30fps then facecam with a gopro at 30fps, when i render out my gameplay stays true to its fps but the facecam get all blurry and distorted. any tips?
I have a question and I hope someone can help me out. How do I create one video of half of two videos, side by side. What I am trying to do is create comparisons of before and after running simultaneously in one video. I hope this makes sense. Anyway, thanks! For example, like this here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc6p8lI7O6U
Why doesn't blender just mute/hide the strip being transformed? Is there any reason to not mute it?
Hey so I watched your proxy video, and that really helped me get a steady fps. But I need to use a transform strip, and when I add the transform strip, the fps of the video goes down a lot. How does one go about adding a proxy to a transform strip?
Helped me a hell LOTTTTTTT
Hi I am new too blender and i got everything else in this video except for how to delete the audio file what button did you hit to delete it please respond??!!
i have moto clips and want to overlay gps data, and also correct lens fisheye. and make it automatic in batch. so how to?
Let's say you wanted to have a picture overlay partially over a video and have the picture be moving across the video. How would I do that?
never mind my previous comment regarding the last video…
Really good and helpfull videos, thanks for that! Is there any way to improve the final rendering speed? At the moment im testing a few video editing tools. In the other tools it took my machine to render a 12 minute video in 40 Minutes, Blender takes 1h20mins for that.. is blender just slower or am i missing something?
I was wondering, if you use a facecam or something similar, where you want to zoom in on a ceratin spot, is that something you've done a video about or?
doesn't let me open the software to change the fps of the overlay video
Question:When I try to add the transform effect onto my overlay video, it says I can't apply it to audio files. But I cannot select the audio and video independently; when one is selected, the other selects itself as well. (Using Windows 10)Update: The framerates between the two videos are different. (One is a game clip, the other is a video recording)
Enormously helpful; guess I owe you a subscribe!
Hello, the only way i can see a video within another video is by using the cross effect and make that transition as long as possible. I If the first movie is longer than the movie i crossed to, the second movie will just stop and go back to showing the first movie. How do i fade out the second movie not going to black but smoothly to the first movie? I hope you understand what i'm asking…
Great very useful thanks!
Help! I managed to put 4 .mov videos together in 1 screen. There are 300,000 frames but all of the 4 videos are only 1 and a half minute long (I'm new to this so I'm not really sure if that's appropriate). It's taking toooo long to render, im worried I may not be doing it right.
This series has been incredibly useful. Thank you! 🙂
Hi, shall I also mute the original strip during I use speed control effect strip?
I have ffmpeg but I don't know how to change the frame rate, could anyone help me with this please?
Alright so here's my struggle: I SPENT 6 MONTHS SCOURING THE INTERNET FOR A NON-SKETCHY WAY OF DOING VIDEO OVER LAY AND 3 DAYS AGO I THOUGHT "DAMN IT WHY DON'T I TRY MAKING A BLENDER SCENE AND MAKING AN ANIMATION AND USE THE 2 VIDEOS AS TEXTURES AND THEN…" # FINDS OUT BLENDER HAS NLE# "FUUUUUUUUU"
Hello, thank you very much =
) =) This has helped me a lotOne question, so the the transform strip is like a copy/paste of a selected strip, more or less?
I'm enjoying your videos very much. I really have the feeling of being on the right way to learn how to edit video on Blender. You are doing a really amazing and usefull work. Very educational and nice to watch. Thanks a lot!
Cool, I managed to make my outro thanks to your series (very well made tutorials). Thanks!
Thanks for this. You've saved my bacon today.
Hey, great vids, bro. They help. However (and I apologize if you have mentioned this- I haven't watched all your vids), something I figured out on my own is that most YouTube videos are at either 30 FPS or 60 FPS. Blender's initial FPS is 24. This made me soooo frustrated at first (cuz I didn't know what was happening. The audio just wouldn't sync up and was less than the full length of the video.). When I figured it out, it was such a simple fix- just change the frame rate under the render tab. I just wanted to leave my new knowledge somewhere for anyone who needs it.
Is there anyway you can put a transparent moving video also known as a transparent gif on top of another video? If so it would help me so much Im not very great at this stuff but it would help me a ton if you could help 🙂
Why is it that when I render my video into a Xvid that later when i watch it, it only shows audio and no video, but when i move it to a H.264 file the video will show up, is it my computer or is something not set up correctly
I dont know why but i cant the overlay to work 🙁
Pretty cool Mike, very assertive
Thanks A Lot!
you have really taught me a Lot! I couldn't seem to find this anywhere else.
Hi again M.M., Appreciate the reply..would love to see it up on your channel. Perhaps you could just do a tut on 'one point tracking (I found one, 53:00 mins. needs, parenting the dot .png transparency onto the object in the live action footage.
Mikeycal, writing, design, graphics and marketing are my forte', otherwise I have learning and comprehension issues. So, hopefully to save you some time, I curated some videos and notes where an experienced person like yourself could understand the jargon, content and prerequisites, follow along and have it together in no time. It would stand alone, because searching extensively hasn't revealed the combined topics even with rhetorical iterations, that are especially painful for me.
Speaking of 'no time'. I'm too old to become a Blender artist. I just want to execute on this one video idea and get the whole show on the road. Please tell me where can I send the word document and links. Thank You
This just great !!!!! Exactly what I needed. Million thx. You really have a great set of tutorial vids. Thank you sir
thanks for this video man…
Just wanna ask, is it possible to overlay an edited green screen video from blender compositor and align it to a video in VSE? It would be great to see blender functioning like after effects.. 🙂
Mikeycal Meyers, I'm a creative artist challenged by IT. UR an Excellent Teacher. I appreciate you style. The only way I see improving it, adding a High liter Halo around your cursor.
Please Mr. Mikeycal, do a Tutorial on 'Motion tracking' to then roughlyshow how to affix a PNG. My suggestion; put a ballerina image on the back of a galloping horse for a couple seconds. I can provide image and video herein below. Please, Please, Please, Please, Please. There are a couple out there, Too Long or too Short leaving points off. so you have to switch to the others. None compare to yours style.

HERE'S THE FOOTAGE https://youtu.be/OapMBWNgTzU YOU CAN USE A SCENE AT: 00:22, or at 01:38, or 05:12 seconds in. It would be so cool. Thanks again. Be Well M.B
Thank you very much 🙂 you help me so much .!! 🙂 I'm now your 4500 subsciber .! 🙂
