I show you how to do Video Overlays. I also explain why we can’t delete strips that are used to create Transform strips.

Download link for FFmpeg: https://www.ffmpeg.org/

If you would like to use FFmpeg but you want a Graphic User Interface, I recommend you try https://handbrake.fr/ instead of using FFmpeg’s command line interface.

  1. Hey, Mike! Thank you for the video, it was really helpful. I've been using blender for a while and have recently decided to use it to make gaming videos using a video overlay. The problem I'm having on my overlay is that it drops in framerate while the two videos play. What can I do to get the framerate up so that my reaction video is in sync with my gameplay video?

  2. Hello Mikeycal! Thanks for the tutorial.. very useful. I have one question though: Can I set a different % opacity on one same video? Say I want the video to be 0% visible on the left and 100% visible on the right? If so, I would need to set a separation line. How could I do that? Many thanks!

  3. so i was able to record gameplay at 30fps then facecam with a gopro at 30fps, when i render out my gameplay stays true to its fps but the facecam get all blurry and distorted. any tips?

  4. Hey so I watched your proxy video, and that really helped me get a steady fps. But I need to use a transform strip, and when I add the transform strip, the fps of the video goes down a lot. How does one go about adding a proxy to a transform strip?

  5. Really good and helpfull videos, thanks for that! Is there any way to improve the final rendering speed? At the moment im testing a few video editing tools. In the other tools it took my machine to render a 12 minute video in 40 Minutes, Blender takes 1h20mins for that.. is blender just slower or am i missing something?

  6. Question:When I try to add the transform effect onto my overlay video, it says I can't apply it to audio files. But I cannot select the audio and video independently; when one is selected, the other selects itself as well. (Using Windows 10)Update: The framerates between the two videos are different. (One is a game clip, the other is a video recording)

  7. Hello, the only way i can see a video within another video is by using the cross effect and make that transition as long as possible. I If the first movie is longer than the movie i crossed to, the second movie will just stop and go back to showing the first movie. How do i fade out the second movie not going to black but smoothly to the first movie? I hope you understand what i'm asking…

  8. Help! I managed to put 4 .mov videos together in 1 screen. There are 300,000 frames but all of the 4 videos are only 1 and a half minute long (I'm new to this so I'm not really sure if that's appropriate). It's taking toooo long to render, im worried I may not be doing it right.

  9. Alright so here's my struggle: I SPENT 6 MONTHS SCOURING THE INTERNET FOR A NON-SKETCHY WAY OF DOING VIDEO OVER LAY AND 3 DAYS AGO I THOUGHT "DAMN IT WHY DON'T I TRY MAKING A BLENDER SCENE AND MAKING AN ANIMATION AND USE THE 2 VIDEOS AS TEXTURES AND THEN…" # FINDS OUT BLENDER HAS NLE# "FUUUUUUUUU"

  10. I'm enjoying your videos very much. I really have the feeling of being on the right way to learn how to edit video on Blender. You are doing a really amazing and usefull work. Very educational and nice to watch. Thanks a lot!

  11. Hey, great vids, bro. They help. However (and I apologize if you have mentioned this- I haven't watched all your vids), something I figured out on my own is that most YouTube videos are at either 30 FPS or 60 FPS. Blender's initial FPS is 24. This made me soooo frustrated at first (cuz I didn't know what was happening. The audio just wouldn't sync up and was less than the full length of the video.). When I figured it out, it was such a simple fix- just change the frame rate under the render tab. I just wanted to leave my new knowledge somewhere for anyone who needs it.

  12. Is there anyway you can put a transparent moving video also known as a transparent gif on top of another video? If so it would help me so much Im not very great at this stuff but it would help me a ton if you could help 🙂

  13. Why is it that when I render my video into a Xvid that later when i watch it, it only shows audio and no video, but when i move it to a H.264 file the video will show up, is it my computer or is something not set up correctly

  14. Hi again M.M., Appreciate the reply..would love to see it up on your channel. Perhaps you could just do a tut on 'one point tracking (I found one, 53:00 mins. needs, parenting the dot .png transparency onto the object in the live action footage.
Mikeycal, writing, design, graphics and marketing are my forte', otherwise I have learning and comprehension issues. So, hopefully to save you some time, I curated some videos and notes where an experienced person like yourself could understand the jargon, content and prerequisites, follow along and have it together in no time. It would stand alone, because searching extensively hasn't revealed the combined topics even with rhetorical iterations, that are especially painful for me.

Speaking of  'no time'. I'm too old to become a Blender artist. I just want to execute on this one video idea and get the whole show on the road. Please tell me where can I send the word document and links. Thank You

  15. thanks for this video man…
Just wanna ask, is it possible to overlay an edited green screen video from blender compositor and align it to a video in VSE? It would be great to see blender functioning like after effects.. 🙂

  16. Mikeycal Meyers, I'm a creative artist challenged by IT. UR an Excellent Teacher. I appreciate you style. The only way I see improving it, adding a High liter Halo around your cursor.
Please Mr. Mikeycal, do a Tutorial on 'Motion tracking' to then roughlyshow how to affix a PNG. My suggestion; put a ballerina image on the back of a galloping horse for a couple seconds. I can provide image and video herein below.  Please, Please, Please,  Please, Please. There are a couple out there, Too Long or too Short leaving points off. so you have to switch to the others.  None compare to yours style.

HERE'S THE FOOTAGE https://youtu.be/OapMBWNgTzU  YOU CAN USE A SCENE AT: 00:22, or at 01:38, or 05:12 seconds in. It would be so cool. Thanks again. Be Well M.B
