3D Animation Demoreel 2017 (Autodesk Maya 2016)

Since I graduated from my institute last year with a Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation; I’ve decided to publicly post my demoreel here to show what I’ve spent most of my time working on from scratch (except the Norman models).

Overall; the main focus of this is my skills as a 3D Animator. I am very familiar in how to model, texture, edit UVs rig, light, render, etc. But I spend the minimal amount of time with those things so I could make sure that animation was first priority with my demoreel.

This version of my demoreel had been altered so that it could be uploaded on my YouTube account. I have always wanted to batch render this with the actual lighting I used and fix it up a bit but for now; a playblast is perfect for this at the moment.

I’ll also be open for criticism from others with this to see what they think of this as a whole.

For those asking; this had already earned me with an internship but I’m still open in looking to do freelance work or straight-up employment so only respond to the email address shown if it is actually job related.

Thanks πŸ™‚

  1. No offense, but on SOME (!!!!) of the scenes, the animation screams "SFM style, but done in Maya", not because of the TF2 sounds at all, but the animation itself. If this was done in SFM, i would be like "cool" and like it, but in my opinion this style doesen't really fit in Maya and especially putting this for a demoreel that you want to apply for a job as a 3D animator.
On some of the scenes, your animation looks very "pose to pose" without too much breakdowns and keyframes in it and it looks booring that way, also looks like it's mostly animated in Spline mode (at least to me), though if you say that you graduated in 3D animation, you should probably perform better, i don't really want to judge your skills based on that particular video. To me this will look better for more of a showreel rather than a demoreel. I am not a hater, but just saying what i think about your reel. Do a research on Google on how to make your animation demo reel, and there is a good ammount of information about how to make it look better. IF (!!!!) this reel shows what you are currently capable of, despite of graduating with 3D animation, sorry, but you should actually take more time to practice and boost your skills at animation.
Again, don't take my comment offensive, but look it at the bright side and hope that will make you improve much more :).
And remember one thing: Never Give Up, Because Great Things Take Time, remember that !!!!!
(Also, sorry for my not-so-good writing at English, it's not my native language, but i may had writed that comment better if i wasn't sleepy.)

  2. I loved it! As someone who is learning 3D animation this was inspiring to me. πŸ™‚ Is it alright if I can get in contact with you to ask questions regarding the subject? I kind of have a lot of stuff to ask since I want to improve and learn more.

  3. I love how you made the story, the models and the animation. For me, they are sorta similar to a 3D cartoon I've watched before, like that all from the vid were from your style. Keep moving on with the good work! Just a tip if you wish to follow: Try to put a bit of variety on, for example, the "hint.wav" sound, like reverse or a pitch swift, so, it may not be that "repetitive" if you feel like it might be. Although, it's not a bad thing and I liked the animation
