3D Animation Masterclass: Basic Walk Cycle Tutorial

A real time demo of how to approach animating a basic 3D walk cycle using Maya. This is primarily intended to suggest a methodology for getting all the channels of movement worked out before doing the final polish and mix. (Special thanks goes to Ryan Abonitalla for getting me motivated to do this…Anders Ehrenborg for the modeling and Kustaa Vuori for the rig)

  1. Kyle, I've been a fan of yours ever since I met you at Cal-Arts.
Your student film "Pancreas" was so bizarre I felt just like the bishop when his jaw dropped and his partner crossed himself, and then I learned that the film was inspired by your own real life struggles.
I hope you are well and strong. Maybe you could see fit to share the Pancreas film with the peanut gallery. It proved that you were going to be a force of nature even back then.

  3. This was the best walk cycle video I have found!!! Thank you so much for taking the time to go through each individual part, and doing the entire cycle of each part before moving on to the next. Extremely helpful tutorial.
