This is a companion video to my most recent tutorial originally created for Autodesk 3dsMax. I will attempt to translate all of the techniques and tools used in my 3dsMax video to the Blender workflow. You will need to enable the Add Mesh : Extra Objects addon to complete this tutorial.

  2. Another great tutorial, thank you very much for these 10 minutes of exercise! It really aids thinking in the modeling process and especially for blender it's very useful to follow using the shortcuts. They seem to be an overwhelming lot.

  3. @6:23 you mention to use Ctrl while you select the edges, but the popup footnote is saying ALT + RMB to select edges. I'm assuming what you said verbally is the correct one, because ctrl actually worked for me. Great tutorial, John! Thank you again!

  4. The technique you used in Blender – applying bevel for most the action – is one that can be almost literally used to produce the same object in Wings3D.
    Just a comment about to select the flower pattern (6:12): in Wings3D it's easier just by using Select->Edge Loop by using one of those pentagon edges and then Selecting->Similar.

    The other technique you used in 3dsMax give you a better flower shape – my thought. The petals became more rounded while for blender the bevel caused it be more rectangular. 🙂

  5. i dislike Max very much for many reasons, but there is one thing i believe only max is really good for, and that is what you do. make very abstract mathematical objects, so it always blows my mind when you manage to do the same in blender. so i have a question, do you find it hard to make these objects in blender compared to max?

  6. Great, this solution is way batter then what I come out with, and "Connect Vertices" is new to me, although it might be there for a long time already. As always, thank you for the tutorial.
