Of them, the two that have made the biggest difference in my own work have been learning to simplify my compositions and not being afraid to experiment. We tend to think of composition in an additive manner, continually including more and more in the frame to balance different elements, but often, it is better to reduce the frame to just the essentials. This will allow your viewer to more easily find the subject, and it will make it stand out more strongly within the frame.
