Hey guys!
This tutorial is a quick demonstration I performed while tutoring for a local university last year. In this tutorial I cover the basics of blender, how to export a scene from sketch-up and the basics of the cycles render engine!
Let me know what you want next in the comments! 🙂

anybody with a FBX converter link
hey smart ass, only evaluation (or pro) version has export to dxf or 2ds options. that was 30 days ago.
Just saying
such a good video!
do i have to include window planes in sketch or just leave blank?
so the model imported, but its massive, i think much bigger than its supposed to be, any way to fix that?
This guy forgot to mention he's using Sketchup PRO. A BIG Omission on his part. In Pro, you can export Skp files and materials into Blender. Not so in the free version of Sketchup
Followed your steps to a T – but the object file wouldn't appear in blender…argh!
Ok… so i did this three times now and all i get was really big box… and i mean BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG box
Help me out guys! I'm using a OS X and when i try to convert from .dxf to .fbx, it starts "loading". For mac users will understand that when something loads, the "colourful circle swirly" icon will replace the mouse cursor. That being said, it just "loads".. Ive waited for almost 30mins and nothing happens. So my question here is, is that normal? How long am i suppose to wait for? And if that should not happen, how should i troubleshoot this problem? My .dxf file is 122mb, if that helps
Its pretty bad when im just sitting at home learning this when it is meant for a uni lol
There is now a native SKP importer Win/Mac!
correct me if I'm wrong… sketchup exports .obj directly which can be opened by Blender.. why the work around?
Atually COLLADA exports directly to Blender, given that many people don't have sketchupPro it is the only way to export
1:29 Hey marty 🙂
i have sketchup 2014 pro and i can directly open skp models through exporting it into 3ds file format or obj. format and then open it in blender but i find it difficult to understand blender engine especially its lighting system
How do you access the different file formats to export? Trying to export model to Blender. Any help would be appreciated. jstier@ecsd.us
I did all of this stuff but it doesn't work. I double checked, triple checked, even quadruple checked it! When I import my model to blender nothing comes up. Help?
