Thanks for the easy to follow tutorial. This is just what I was looking when I encountered this exact problem while learning WordPress and PHP. Like he said, it's not perfect since you are losing data, but it's a simple way to fix a common issue.
If you're a developer, there's no such phrase as "local files don't matter." Often, that is your only copy of something that has not gone live yet. You can figure out the rest by reading the posts here…
