This is a time lapse video of me constructing a first generation Apple iPad in 3D in Maya 2011 (Student Edition). This is the very first time I have ever constructed a complex object in Maya without any tutorials whatsoever. I am fairly proud of this, so don’t burst my bubble to much. I understand that I used some very unorthodox methods to construct this object, but alternative methods proved to not work well for me.
The music is from the EVE Online soundtrack. I am NOT the producer of this song. All right belong to CCP Games.

When I made this video, I was using a late 2008 MacBook Pro. But for my current setup, I built my own desktop. It has a Core i7 processor that is overclocked to 4.5 Ghz, An NVIDIA GTX 680 graphics card, 16 GB of RAM, 2 TB hard drive, 850 Watt power supply, and the CPU is liquid cooled.
I like to buy an apple product for 3d modeling and animation. Can you please tell your hardware specifications and model .
@Sf865 This was a while ago, so I don't remember too well. I think it only took me an hour, start to finish
@carolinebernardo34 It's gotten lost somewhere in my hard drive. If I can find, I'll let you know.
How long did it take you?
can i have the maya file 🙂
This was recorded on my Mac using QuickTime X's built-in screen-recording feature. On Windows, you can use programs like Camtasia, Cam Studio, FRAPS, or any other number of recording software. I sped it up after recording it in video editing software. It's very simple to do.
I wonder how you record this. Is there a time lapse plugin in maya?
@kstrehan yh me too i only plan on using the mac for basic things such as concept art on painter and adobe creative suit, zbrush at the very most… that's a neat build i plan on building something like that in given time anyways thanks for the quick reply

hey cool video so any chance in sharing you PC specs with us?, am interested in purchasing a mac but cant decide between imac or a mac mini, which one have you got and what system specs
-thanks in advance
You did awesome here dude, your unorthodox approach to it was very interested as the conventional way is always the way most people follow, which reduces their creative side in my opinion and limits improvisation when presented with problems the software (Maya) can throw at you. Great work and never lose that unorthodox approach 🙂
