If this keeps happening then you will have to scale the uv's manually.
Hm I also have the same problem but I followed every step. My apple is splitted like in 5:10 but in texture editor, it's also splitted into millions of pieces.

as long as you followed the steps in the video it shouldn't do that. That only happens if you didn't create an initial planar map so there are no cuts on the UV yet.
when i select layout in the UV texture editor, it splits up the apple into a million pieces :/
as long as you selected the edges I did to cut them you should be fine. You should have 2 pieces; they may not be exactly as mine, but close enough is fine.
You are the best at maya tutorials THANKS!! But 1 thing I had trouble with the UV thing the map showed the apple not in the shape you had.

Did you press a specific key when you moved the vertices at 8:25?
I changed the selection type from marquee to drag select. Once you do that you can just go to face mode and drag over the faces and they will be selected.
How to select top all Face During move arround drag at 58 sec.

whats the "opposite" command of "shift+."?
select a face first and then press shift + . which is the same as shift + >
on the keyboard. You can also select the face/s and go to the select menu and choose grow selection from there.
I can't grow the selection by pressing shift + .

the texture editor itself will show the 2d texture not a 3d object, it will be flat.
When clicking texture editor I'm not getting a 3-D image of my object, its very flat instead. Is it from a mistake in the planar mapping or a setting I might have off?
could you specify at what point in the video. if you mean using soft selection just press b.

I don't know what you mean. are you talking about using maya materials? whenever you want to texture something you always have to create uv's for your objects.
Isnt there a way to just put in a file texture In HD.

you can create a cylinder and shape it or a sphere and scale it and shape it. I think I used a sphere in this case.
you have to select the whole uv shell and use r to rotate. rotate,move, and scale are the same key shortcuts as regular interface.
How do you rotate in UV Texture Editor?
Good video but you need to explain the key shortcuts more and how you are doing things. Exmaple would be when you are in the UV texture editor, how are you manipulating certain parts? When I try to move certain parts the whole thing moved.
