Autodesk Maya 2013 Tutorial – Oil Barrel Modeling, Texturing, and lighting.
In this video I go over how to model an oil barrel. I provide a texture file to apply to the model and then go over some basic lighting.

guys just get blender if you are intermediate level or above as blender is way more powerful and better than 3DS Max or Maya
Can this method work for game assets too???
incredible!
Please guys also see this and tell how it is ?

I have the same problem as ricardo the cylinder shrinks and ends up like a cone. My soft selection is disabled.
Thanks man!
Thank you very much! and I did rendering 5min with 1K haha
even though there is no sound, this is a great tutorial, thanks!
Great job!!!
thanks very much for nice silent tutorial 😀
Lol halflife 2 barrel 😛
As an AP Digital Media Arts student, I know a lot when it comes to adobe software. I recently took it upon myself to load Maya and learn how it works (there was no one I knew that was available to teach me how to use it). After watching several videos, you've helped me understand the basic principals (among a number of more intricate principals) of the software in a matter of a few days. For that, I commend you.
At 2.28 you manually select two faces. All other faces appear as selected a moment later. Did you use a shortcut to achieve this?
shift + . same as shift + > you can also go to select menu, grow selection.
the shift + . shortcut is not working for me??
THAK YOUUUUU
I hear you, that is why this was the last silent tutorial I made. It is crucial that you know what I'm doing and there is no better way than by verbally explaining it. Thank you for watching.
Glad you're doing these but for the love of God add speech to the others. As someone who's learning this program it's enormously frustrating to just watch you do it when you're not explaining what it is you're doing.
this modelling technique also the same with yhe 3ds max so if you know how to use max you can do this. nice tutorial dude.
make sure under edit mesh, keep faces together is enabled.
at 01:24 when I move faces on top, edges between faces are standing still. How to fix it?Thanks.
hold down ctrl when you click and it will appear.
How are you getting the "to UV" to come up.. I do the selection then click back to the uv map but a.. I get is UV Face Edge, what step am I missing to get that other menu for "to UV" option?
ok, nvm lmao. it's working now. with the B button
doesn't work.
I selected the face and then hold down shift and double click the face next to it. As long as you inserted the edge loop at the top you should have the same geometry there.
At 1:49 how did you select only that small part? for me the whole face gets selected
now grab it with your Gravity Gun.
nope, that is it. Make sure you select only the faces at the top and nothing else. Also, make sure you don't have soft selection enabled ( when geometry looks red). Press b to enable/disable soft selection.
at 1:15 when I extrude and then press R and scale, the whole cylinder shrinks and it ends up like a cone, is there anything else you do that I didn't notice?
at that time frame the faces for the cap area were selected and then I grew the selection ( shift + .) and pressed w to move them.
At 10.03 how do you select the whole thing? because face loop doesn't select it all
at that time-frame I pressed r to scale.
At 4:50 you change the object mode, how did you do it?
you mean a face loop? select one face then hold down shift and double click a face next to it.
