In this Video we will take a look at how to create a shatter effect within autodesk maya. This Effect can be accomplish by many different ways in Maya but we will take a look at two of them. One with creating a shatter effect within the Dynamics tap and the other Being with nCloth. with the nCloth method you may need to create extra layers to get that depth you’re looking for or just simply extrude the object.

  1. I have followed your tutorial (and others, as well) and I can successfully shatter a primitive polygon. But I cannot shatter a model. If I take a polygon and modify it, maybe create two cubes and then combine them, I CAN NOT apply a shatter effect to that object. I need to shatter an actual model, not just a cube or a sphere or a taurus. What am I doing wrong??? I really need some help here. Every single tutorial I find on using the shatter effect in Maya shows ONLY the shatter working on a primitive polygon, and NEVER using an actual model of any kind. Do you have any advice?

  2. thank you ! I watch a lot of these videos I will use you a lot. You have good clean delivery and you KEEP IT SIMPLE…. thanks for not over doing it ….very helpful. This is Hard as Hell but I love it so thanks again.
