Part 1

In this tutorial, I will go over my method of UV unwrapping, and how it works / why it works the way it does.

This is a method I developed through trial and error, as well as watching other people’s methods on youtube. essentially, what you do is select the faces you want to edit in the UV plane, and then Capture the selected UV’s through the camera perspective.

The UV’s will show up exactly as they are in the actual model, making it easy to tell what it is you are doing. next, if the UV selection is cylindrical by nature, we select an edge to cut so that maya will be able to open up the cylindrical UV mesh and be able to lay it out flat.

lastly I will cover how to tidy up the UV mesh so that it is evenly spread out and be easier to texture later on.
