There are certain projects that I take on to challenge myself in Photoshop that often prove to me just how powerful Photoshop really is. Creating an Avatar Navi character from a photograph I shot a few years ago was just one of those moment. No intro can prepare you for this fun tutorial, just find a sharp photo with nice light and jump right in. Enjoy!

Forgot to add her Na'vi ears. 🙂
Why choose her?
I know this video is old and Photoshop has released updated versions since, but I had to comment. My assignment was to create an avatar character (I used my picture). I must tell you, you saved my life. I was literally going to cry (hehe). Then I stumbled on your video. Thanks.
Thanks Good Tut
Your family should be DISAPPOINTED..

Thank you so much for the tutorial. It was a really big help. I did two versions of Avatar: both for me and both for my friend. I used this tutorial. Preparing a nearly 1 hour tutorial is not an easy job. Thank you.

At 28:03 when a mask is added in order to reveal the eyes and lips, even though I set black for my brush, instead of revealing the white, green and black portions of each eye the fill is orange! It's driving me insane. I've re-watched that part several times but I can't fathom what I've done wrong!
Sir where should i look for the tattoo? thank you
The only thing I dislike about this is the mask you used. In my opinion you can clearly see that it's something you added on later on, instead of something that really belongs to her (if you know what I mean).
But awesome tutorial!

Couldn't you do that part at the 30 minute mark by creating a clipping mask?
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I had to do this for a school assignment and I sticked along! It's not really perfect, but I like it so far! Greetings from Belgium!
very pro work…awesome..tuvid rocks..APPLAUSE
Didn't check all the comments, but with all the masks for the face, you should place all of the adjustments into a group and mask the group 🙂
Thank you tutvid that was great tutorial I shall try it myself.
Hi. This is an awesome tutorial. I was following along in this tutorial and when i added the black and white adjustment layer and changed the blending mode to multiply, my picture turned very dark. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem?

WHY IS THE EYE COMING OUT BLUE INSTEAD OF YELLOW >_<
I don't know why but ctrl j doesn't do the same thing that it does on yours. not a big deal tho. Just right click and select "new layer via copy"
When he moved it up to the next layer, why didn't the eyes get cut from the last one?
what resolution photograph should we start out with? This is my first project in my image editing class and I have NO idea what I'm doing.
