Good tutorial, but it was really just 7:15 I came here for.
So I'm trying to follow along, but when I hit the render key (F12) the background shows up, but the image/plane doesn't. I checked everything I know how to check:
1) The camera icon is active
2) The eye icon is active
3) Everything is checked in "Cycles Settings" under the "Object" settings
4) Duplication is set to "None" under "Duplication" under the "Object" settings
The same issue occurs under "Blender Render" also. I'm using 2.78c on Ubuntu 16.04. What's going on here? Thanks.
superb! gonna try with a title….concise good audio
there is no such premultiply option while i'm importing the image file (i use 2.75a in windows 7 ) . please help, how do I do it?
Hitting G doesn't do anything for me in 2.77. Could they really have changed it all that much in just a few dot releases?
Realy good tutorial. Nice and short.
When I try this, the render layer is not checkerboard alpha, it is solid gray, and the FAC function will not take the alpha plugin , only a sloder fader function…
So this works even if i want to add a croped face over the original video?
Really good!
crikey… great tutorial… very clear and concise… thanks 🙂
can you do this on again on the latest version of blender because its not working the way u r showing

Could i download a video to do a motion tracking on anywhere, i dont have a great camera to use
Hi, it is a very nice tutorial.
But, I few questions that might seem naïve: Why bothering to render (it takes time)? We kind of already have a nice video without it, just using the time line (7:10 -> 7:19). I mean, if the lighting, shadow stuffs, etc. are not considered, it should be alright and there won't be much of a difference. Right? (I hope I am not missing anything important)
Is it a matter of saving it in a file in order to make a 2D movie? Why does it takes so much time? I mean, video games show several different actions, and there is no time for rendering every single time an action is taken.
(Sorry for so many questions, it might not be the correct place for it. I just don't know where else I should publish it. If you know where, please, let me know.)
Other question: How could it be done for a real-time tracking version, with a pre-recorded video like in your tutorial?
Thank you in advance.
instead of adding a image what u did how can i add or use a 3d model or the box what u delete in the 3d view??
I don't have a selection which allows me to set the video clip as the background, plz help
Great tutorial! Thankx!!
Thanks for the tutorials, they're very helpful. I just have one question. I followed everything and my 3D View looks and animates just like the tutorial, my problem is rendering. In the tutorial when you click the render button (camera icon) in the Render Layers Node at 7:42 everything outside of your image appears as an alpha channel, but on mine everything outside of my image appears as opaque. Any ideas on why I'm not getting the alpha channel to appear outside of my image? Thanks.
For some odd reason my scene doesnt composite with the movie clip. I just put a skyrim helmet on the markers but the backround is still alpha not composited even tho its parented to the empty object markers along with the backroun image as the clip. still doesnt work. Then i tried cycles engine, didnt make a difference. Any idea why?
in my version the sky checkbox is automatically checked in the scene so you have to uncheck it everytime
This was super helpful and concise. Thanks!
for some reason, my empty floats a bit in weird directions. even though in the tracking setup it sticks perfect. any ideas?
Great tutorial, Metalx, thanks for doing this. I'm just getting into the mysteries of cam tracking. Fun stuff…
Thank you soooo much for making this short version. Just what the doctor ordered.
I have a serious problem. When i try to do the compositing part it wont put the movie as a background. i have v. 2.68 please help me. 😀
I did everything you did but it wont render the background
Most excellent and enjoyable!
Pick reconstruction from that menu, then the left bar should have the option you need
how i make my piture transparent? (*.gif don´t work)
dope keep the videos coming!!!
Thank you so much! So concise.
Hi, you have to select the Reconstruction option, then you can choose the "3d markers to mesh" option, as shown in the tutorial.
