This is my first attempt at a tutorial. I made it to demonstrate how to simply create a fire and smoke simulation in Blender 2.65.

Feel free to ask if you have any questions but for many common issues, check here – http://youtu.be/R0PWu0dSRX4

  1. When i render with animation, my sphere just emits some kind of white smoke effect but if i played it without rendering, the sphere is actually lit and smoking…help?

  2. Hi Tim, by all means send me a link if you post a video. You can set the smoke-collision object as no-render by unselecting the Camera icon next to its name in the Outliner winder (top right in default view).

  3. Hi Joao, what exactly goes wrong? The Dissolve function makes the smoke vanish after a pre-set time. Are you having a problem of not getting enough smoke when using it? You may want to try balancing the Dissolve value with the Temp.Diff value which sets how quickly the smoke rises. Good luck.

  4. Hello
I really enjoyed this video. However, I found a hard time making the effect Dissolves function properly. This mode of working the smoke hinders the proper use of Dissolves (tried multiple values and with Slow enabled and disabled and the little smoke appears). Any suggestions on how to proceed?
    Thank you.

  5. Hi Sardi, I have the same problem like SYNCOPATIC. Well, your download works. But at the start your cube (domain) is black. When I start to play, the black domain cube turns into a wireframe, the smoke simulation work perfect. I can´t find any problem/diference in the settings. When I use the Quick Smoke, the cube (domain) starts as a wireframe, when I play, the cube (domain) turns into black. Some idea?

  6. Hi Clash, To adjust the flame/smoke colours go to the Texture tab with the Domain selected and then open the Colors section. You will see a Colour Ramp there which you can adjust (there will be one texture for smoke and one for flame).
To adjust the 'burn rate', you can adjust Temp Diff and Flame Rate under the Physics panel with the source object selected.
    Good luck.

  7. Hi Sync, there are a number of possible issues, however, check the video description now where I've placed a download link for a simple Fire/Smoke demo file. See if that works for you and if it does check the settings between yours and mine. Good luck.

  8. The strange thing I have, is that when I hit the play button like you do after applying the smoke, the cube that I got when I chose the quick smoke effect turns black. I then have to select an object inside it with right mouse click to make it visible. No smoke starts , or maybe it does, but since there is now a black box around it, I can't see.
