FAQ:
Q: Leg doesn’t bend once I add pole target to leg IK:
A: This will happen if your upper and lower leg bones are completely straight. To fix, go into edit mode on the rig and select just the ‘knee joint’ where the upper and lower leg bones meet. Move it forward a tiny bit toward the character’s feet to give the leg a slight natural bend. This will help the IK figure out how you want it to behave.

for people who can not get the bones working like they should at 10:32, in blender 2.79 you need to make the foot bone copie the ROTATION of the legg control bone, hope this helps everyone further
oh god, the add constraint with targets ( copy location ) doesn't work! 🙁 the toes bone still looks down
For some reason, I can't rotate any bones in pose mode. I can only manipulate bones with a controller. I was going to use FK, but I couldn't move anything… anyone know what the issue is?
I was skipping through video, 0:40. Uh, thought this was some "special appendage" Sebastian was creating. LOL. My bad!
WHY CANT THEY JUST MAKE IT EASY!?
Whene i return to pose mode in the end my torso bond disappier what happend?
As soon as i add the pole target the controlling one separates from the rest of the bones and slides off and it doesnt bend in the knee at all. If i try to raise it above the knee the entire leg turns 180 degrees. I have tried it from the start like 10 times and there is a same problem each time. Any ideas? BTW If i follow all the steps before that it works just like the one you are working on… My version of Blender is 2.78c
Alt-s doesn't scale the bones for me. help?
Nothing is working for me, the model is not moving with the body and all of this is too confusing
At the end when I tried to bend the leg the bones bend fine but the actual model's knee doesn't bend it just squishes, I've added a little angle in the knees but I don't know what else to do. Awesome tutorial though!! im just stuck
i dont understand for example when i want to name a bone it names all of em
My pull target worked fine in your other tutorial, however this one didn't change the knee location, only changes the leg bones self rotation. Didn't know what did I do wrong.
Do not good tutorial at all. You do not teach, you just make hard not flexible tutorial that you need to STRICTLY follow!
how would i weight paint if I have an outline on my character? I duplicated the model, inverted it, and used backface culling. How can I weight paint both at the same time?
It is a solid tutorial, I only wish I understood the setting of all those crazy foot controls better. If I have to do it on my own rig, I will be in a mess.
Hey u miss something at last to remove doubles fro mesh.
YOU SUCK
I Have did What You Did While Moving The Torso Bone And Your Knee Joint Works Fine. But In My Case It is bending Front and Back ,Left And Right :3
I'm so glad I found these videos. I was just following your A* path finding tutorials a few months back and now this. Thank you for the great videos!
I wish I knew how you selsct the ends of bones nd rotate them sensibly like that. When I press 3 my toon is deleted, when I rotate I have to re-position the bones to get the circles ends lined up. When I press E nothing happens.
How do you Extrude bones, how do you get the bones to pivot sensibly with one circle always aligned and how is it that 3 deletes. I am using default settings. Very unwieldy .
Just looking for Key shortcuts. Thanks!
how do i select the bones so there not detached anymore
Are u with pixar
Do those steps work if i wanna combine animations with ragrolls?
in all your videos something has wrong, but i n´t know what is bad exactly but your explanations are really full of mistakes.
My god, I spent 2 days to make a foot bone work correctly.
the leg bone parenting is a messs, not clear, what are you doing
best video
hey when I try to set parent with automatic weights by pressing ctrl p it shows error saying "loop in parents" if u have any idea what to do, please reply
PLEASE HELP! At 7:35 when I o into the recalculate roll menu, there's positive, and negitave. I tried both, but they don't work. Someone please respond to this!
Thanks for accessible direction in rigging, it was very helpful for me. But there is one bug I see in my environment – when we rotate the foot_roll.L bone by 180 deg, it also becomes rotated a little by its own axis (which goes through the connection points of it) Does anybody know WTF? Rotating 90 deg twice do not cause the problem. Ver 2.78
when i move the left foot the other foot (with the mesh) move at the same time . i dont know what is the problem please help me ?
why i cant rotate in pose mode? 🙁
im not doing that shiz again on the arm
How do you fix it when it says "Bone Heat Weighting: Failed to find a solution for one or more bones" when your rigging it all up?
Anyone help me please after rigging when I rotate one hand another hand also rotates please
@Sebastian Lague at 12:50 you tell us to make sure the bone is rotating from the other side, but mine wont rotate at all in pose mode and only rotates from the middle of the bone in edit mode not from one of the sides. Would you know why that is or how to fix it?
@ 5:21 alt E doesn't work for me? any help i have blender 02.76
in pose mode, when i move left hand then right side hand also move. it is same for all the parts of object body what i do??? plz help me…
For modeling a character with a skirt, would I need extra bones to control the skirt itself, or would automatic weights make a the skirt look passable?
The Knee is supposed to only either move directly toward or away from the leg pole target, correct? When I do that, I can move the knee around with the pole target, but the knee itself goes where it wants when I try to bend the leg with the heel bone. What am I missing?
One problem I ran into is that my knee was bending to the left when I pulled it up instead of like a normal persons, so if you are having the same problem, to fix this I changed the angle of the pole bone in the same place I added it.
Hi, I've got up to 14.21 but find that, although everything works mechanically, the foot_controller.L can pull the foot bones slightly beyond the floor before it stops (e.g. 1 unit). Can this be fixed? I can send a picture if necessary.
