In this video, we’ll go through the 5 ways of semi-automatic retopology, exemplified by our stone.
1. Triangulate and convert tris to quads
2. Remesh modifier
3. Shrinkwrap modifier
4. Contour add-on by CgCookie

Thanks for watching! In pt.3, we’re going to sculpt this stone using dynamic topology.

  1. are these methods apply when i have high resolution character like “zbrush” “blender sculpt” also thank you for posting this tutorial i was looking for other ways instead doing it by hand

  2. Only other way I knew was quite tedious and manual- using shrinkwrap to bind a plane 1mm or 2mm above surface of target mesh and hiding the plane, placing new vertices that snap to the surface of mesh. Then using the polybuild tool (in 2.8). I think there is also an add on called F2 that can help but I've not used it.
Thanks for showing me some other ways!

  3. Non manifolds are the bane of my existence, so this was extremely helpful. Thank you. I like tutorials that are brisk and don't take forever talking but this was a tiny bit too fast. I had to rewatch a few times. Still very helpful.

I think there are some other add-ons that help with that too right?

  4. интересно, а откуда вообще N-гоны берутся?) Только вижу их иногда у кого-то, у самого никогда не получались)
