This is my tutorial that teaches you how to take your modeled, uvunwraped, textured weapon and put it into skyrim using just blender and nifskope.

I am using Blender 2.71 here.

You need the following:
blender: http://www.blender.org/
nifskope: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/NifSkope
FO3 Archive Utility: http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/34/?

  1. I have a question. I allready design a sword quite a while back in blender now I want to try to import it into skyrim but I never set a texture for the blade just created a metal material in cycles. Is there a way to create a metal material or do I have make a texture?

  2. OK so I've got as far as exporting my .3ds from Blender v2.79 and importing it into Nifskope (I'm using v1.2.0 Alpha 2 – the new version has the Import option disabled). I deleted the blood effects, just like you did around 13:50 and then highlighted the name of the sword (OrcishGreatsword in my case, as it's a closer fit to what I'm creating). When I go to import .3ds, it lets me select the file to import from but when I click it, absolutely nothing happens. The name of the weapon is still OrcishGreatsword and the model in the 3D view is still the Orcish Greatsword. Any ideas what I might have done wrong? Maybe something I need to do with my mesh in Blender before exporting? I have already triangulated it. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  3. Hey. Please explain to me few things. If I rename and replace one nif. with another it should show different mesh in Skyrim right ? I had luck with replacing gloves for gloves or head for mask but in other cases it just appear invisible. Lets say I have a character preset mod with just nice default head. It works as a preset but if i just simply replace it for some head armor its invisible. nif. is just simple mesh format supporting armatures, textures and shaders. So basically nif. is nif. Esp. files manage data and load nifs. nifs load textures etc. How am I eable to know which mesh can be used for head armor if i checked this head mesh/preset mod is just a different shape of f.e helm for me. Esp. give you a possibility to change item type (boots etc.) but its just irrelevant… Another thing, my imported files never appear in the game even if i set up everything just like in the video.

  4. Okay, so I got the UV's and all that working. It's in the game and 1) super shiny, 2) the Normal map isn't working, the model is still showing the low-poly version. I have my Normal map in the Texture folder next to the Texture Map so idk if that would affect it. I have the path to the folder in Nifskope correct and everything. Btw, to fix the UV problem I right clicked the NiTriShapeData>Mesh>Flip UV's, it fixed the UV being messed up in the preview window in the CK.

  5. Okay, im gonna try this again. My first question is, is there a difference between Bethesda Art Files and the Nif files? Because all my meshes come up as Bethesda Art Files. I may need a Nif formatted sword model. If you have one, you can email me at DIVINExxAVENGER@gmail.com

  6. Could someone send me the NIF file for an iron sword or something? I keep trying this but when I extract I get Bethesda Art Files. BAF. I can import to Nifskope but when I export the Trishader bullshit to .OBJ it wont appear in Blender. I need help :/

  7. Thank you for this tutorial! Almost everything went well.
My current issue is that my greatsword remains on my back when I draw it in 3rd person, but works fine in 1st person. Does anyone know why this might be?

  8. I have a problem. I export the entire scene in Nifskope as an Obj. But when I try opening the Obj in Blender it says that it's there in the sidebar showing everything in a scene. But I don't actually have the ring in Blender showing up.

What am I doing wrong? Since really the only thing different that I did from what you did is that I haven't made anything yet (was waiting to get the obj from Nif. To see what size I have to work with as a reference.).

  9. Hello. Just found this tutorial and after watching it, I find that it is what I've been looking for. I'm using Max 2012 but everything after using Blender (yours) where it starts as nif is what I'm interested in but the problem I'm having is the text in the video is degradable (can't tell what it reads) (basically the ones in your windows explorer). Do you by any chance have a better video where the text is better readable? I've tried changing the video settings but theres no improvement. Thanks. Stu

  10. i've got a little problem with exporting the .nif file or rather, importing it, using the ebony dagger nif thingo when i import it into blender it's only the dagger mesh and not anything to do with scabbards or blood splatters. do i need to import those separately or?
