For a katana, the hilt is called a tsuba btw. Really great and informative video!

Now i know this is an old video and probably nobody cares but if anyone's wondering why at 10:28 the tip of the blade is off it's because at 7:15 he merged the vertices at first instead of at center like he did with all the other vertices on the sharp side of the blade.

    Really really helpful thx m8

um you merged the tip to the zero but you merged the rest of the blade to center so your blade's all wonky and I literally only just watched 3 blender tutorials.

There's no diamonds on the other side of the handle. Would you do the same thing you did to make the diamonds but on the other side?

Man, scale the sword on the X-Axis just a bit and make the blade thinner, it looks Xtra sexy. ;]

Hey dude the reason the top of you Katana went left is because you merged it to FIRST not the CENTER I had to find that out myself too.

"alt + M" for merge, save yourself a click for something tedious like that.

Hey, does anyone know how to merge all the different parts of a sword for an example, so that I end up having only one object? Many tutorials do not show how to do this sadly, they just pull the parts together

  25. Psycnosis
    October 11, 2018 at 04:37

my blade looks like this and I cant figure out why. Doesnt really matter what materials I use. without render it looks almost identical to the one in the video just a bit wider.

Thanks Aneroph. The renders turned out pretty good. I had a lot of problem with lighting. Could you point me towards what and where to learn about lighting. I placed two light emitting planes for the lgihting and placing them properly gave me headache.

at 08:20 you could simply just select all the verts you want to "merge" and then hit S + Y + 0. That will Scale all the verts only on the Y axis to 0, and because you have your Pivot Point set to Median it will scale it to the exact middle.

29:28 how do I find that glossy shadier cause my version of blender does not have that setup and I cant find it by the way I am using v 2.73

This was a great tutorial. The only thing I mainly changed was the pommel at the bottom since katana dont tend to have them.

Thank you for your tutorial, it is very easy to follow even for a beginner like myself. Unfortunately there is one obstacle that I have, at 02:49 you press the G key to grab and you use your mouse wheel to scroll. I'm using a laptop to do this, to be specific a Lenovo Thinkpad. Is there any way I could scroll while using a Lenovo Thinkpad? Please reply soon.

hahaha when you were doing the tip of the blade i noticed the merge to first point error. when i did it it my program i went to center and just thought "i wonder when he'll pick up on it". not two minutes did i get the "whoa, what happened here" and lost it. thanks for the laugh and great vid btw.
