This tutorial is roughly based on a tutorial that was designed for another free 3D program, Wings 3D, the address of the tutorial is –

http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Wings_3D/Tutorials/Box_modeling_a_car_with_all_Quad_topography

The tutorial uses basic mesh modelling techniques including extrusion to create the ‘cage’. The cage is the term used in box modelling for the simple model that the subdivision surface modifier is applied to.

The subdivision surface modifier rounds sharp edges, loop cuts are used to sharpen edges where required.

  1. How is anyone learning anything from this. I see all this "great tutorial" and stuff and it very well could be, only you're making moves and taking actions without explaining how you got from point A. to point B. This is very hard to follow if you're still learning. Also maybe showing the buttons you're clicking would help people follow. It may just be me but I consider myself a semi quick learner bu I can't work with something I don't have, which is the knowledge to do what you're doing. Please have a little more detailed tutorial on each step you're making. thanks.

  2. I was trying this tutorial, only I started by using a mirror modifier, so I was doing all the work on one half of the car. I had a little trouble with the tires, but I figured out a way around that. I got to 6:03, and I tried the loop cuts, running from front to back, but a few faces will not be cut. And I can only loop cut the front or back at a time. Would this be because of my mirror modifier shenanigans around the wheel frame?
