Canon Plans to Release Seven New Mirrorless Lenses This Year

Canon is showing no signs of slowing down, as alongside the announcement of the powerful R5 mirrorless camera, they have also announced that seven new RF mirrorless lenses are scheduled for release this year alone, along with two new lens extenders for the mirrorless mount.

Details are a bit scarce at the moment, but the company has said that this year will bring the release of seven new RF lenses, along with matching RF 1.4x and RF 2x extenders. So far, they have announced the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM, a much more affordable lens (as compared to most other RF lenses) that represents a new take on the classic walk-around lens, offering near-macro capabilities with a maximum magnification of 0.43x at 105mm and a budget price of $399. The company also announced the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM tonight, which extends its classic 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS lens’ range to be even more useful, making it a versatile option for lots of scenarios.

Canon has not said what other lenses we can expect, but personally, I would love to see a mix of more affordable options and supertelephoto primes. No matter what, 2020 is shaping up to be an exciting year!
