In this tutorial video we are going to take a photo of a leaf and extract a PNG and an Alpha from it. We are then going to apply both in Maya and light and render it.
This process works great when you need leaves on trees, stickers on windows etc.

  1. For games, you can make an alpha channel by adding a channel to the RGB section. Then put your alpha mask in there. You can also drag the whole PSD into unreal and it will figure it out exporting on its own.

  2. Well it works but there is any other ways to do it? cuz i have thousands of dds textures and i dont know how to make them work with alphachannel as DDS, converting 1 by 1 to png that way will take so much time:(

  3. Guys i also want to play with opacity slider to fade my object's visibility but when we pick alpha image for opacity color the slider goes gray so i cant use it to fade visiblity how can i use alpha and change my objects visiblity at the same time in opacity

  4. Sir your videos are very helpful. Sadly I have a problem and desperately need your help. I use Maya 2013 on windows 10 64bit i5, 8 gb ram. After resetting my OS, my hypershade window is empty and I can't assign new materials and cannot load any textures or bumps too. I even tried reinstalling it. Please help me fix this Mr. Mike 🙏🏼

  5. I have a question. Why is my mesh getting messed up when i press 3 for smooth mesh preview? That happens even if i have just smoothed a cylinder with just zero cap divisions and 8 height divisions let alone more complex meshes. I tried same thing on my friend's computer and it worked alright. Are there some settings i can tweek? I have reset the soomth tool already.

  6. Alpha maps is the most interesting in creating transparent texture to an object/objects (ie ripped fabric, leaves, hair, clothing, etc).
You should show how to properly save a project file with all textures and a model at the same time so the files are not lost. I heard that is the most important for professionals when working in a business.

  7. Hello sir, can you help me please i cannot find and not showing UV Texture Editor in my Maya
when i created a cube i tried to use lambert or blinn and open from color tab,
i loaded image from file like you did. its open but cannot work automatic texturing, any idea please?
