Earth Tutorial for Maya: Intermediate Level

Update: It seems some people are angry at me for not going at a reasonable pace. Please be aware, this video is aimed at intermediate level users, if you are a beginner I don’t think this video is for you.

I’m an aspiring 3D artist who wants to share some of what I’ve learnt back to the community!
This is my first tutorial, here I’m covering how to make earth from space using Maya 2015.

  1. In the 2018 release of YouTube they included a pause button. I think you can rewind and slow down playback but I haven't figured that out. Computers are hard. Are there any more tutorials on the internet? Can you do a tutorial on how to life?

  2. Remember kids, Maya is a multi-thousand-dollar piece of software. Unless you're on a VPN, your ISP can see if you download it illegally, and you can get into a lot of trouble. Piracy is bad, mmkay?

  3. Hey LumanoidAU Great stuffs almost made it all the way , i just have a small problem.
in my clouds after the node connecting part i did it and went well but the only thing is that i dont have any Cloud Shadows, any thoughts ? did i missed to tick something ? thanks !

  4. Hey, I just happened to find this video again and I thought about leaving a comment. ๐Ÿ™‚
Sometime while learning Maya 2 years ago, I wanted to create planet Earth and this tutorial helped me so much.
These days I had to use 3ds Max to make a planet and I just liked to play this video in the background while doing it, the classic music and you trying to achieve the same result kept me in good humor all the time haha!!
So thank you very much for this ๐Ÿ˜€
    p.s. I prefer Maya!

  5. Thanks a million. Helped me tons : ) Perfect pace for intermediate users. Keep em coming man! Worked along with you and it is a great looking start. I'm going to do bump and it will good enough for me ; )

  6. This was great man! Appreciate you sharing your techniques. There were many nodes that you used that I hadn't thought of before. Gives me tons of ideas – keep up the good work. Cheers!

  7. Anyone complaining about the speed of this tutorial needs to use the pause/play button more! You're not going to create the same result in the 40 minutes that the tutorial is delivered in. You're going to have to pause and rewind and follow along at your own pace. If you do, you'll produce the same results he's teaching.

The internet is always angry, LumanoidAU. Don't pay attention to it. This is a wonderful tutorial that produces exceptional results! Thank you!

  8. I am an advanced user and I found that your techniques were grand. Many people connect a MR shader to a Maya surface shader before plugging it into a layered shader, but you did it by connecting the diffuse color directly to the layer input. Nice! However, please do not think that speed is synonymous with intermediate or even advanced. There are far more advanced tutorials that manage to move at a consistent and moderate pace. Still, any problems with this tutorial can be attributed to the fact that you said it was your first one. This was made two years ago and if you are still making tutorials I am sure you have improved. Cheers!

  9. Dude! Love the tutorial great work! the final result is beautiful and I personally love the speed at which you work keeps this from being a 2 hour tutorial. I also love your tid bits of humor. This tutorial is perfect too I needed this for a project I am working on. I'm excited to subscribe and check out more of your stuff good sir keep it up!

  10. When your camera is too dark even with aperture open, you need to either raise ISO or shutter speed. Increasing the censor size is not really an appropriate thing — yeah it does work larger censors are more light sensitive. But usually you don't go over a 35mm or very occasionally a 70mm censor.

But that's optics, your maya knowledge is incredible and I learned a lot, I just come from Modo and shading in Modo is so much easier — once you understand their approach I guess. So I am relearning a lot of trivial stuff and your video did the trick!

  11. Hey bro, I just want to Thank you for making an Intermediate Level tutorial, there are way too many beginner tuts out there with nothing for us more advance users to learn from, except for the master classes, and they can be overwhelming sometimes
    So Thanks man!
