Fstoppers Reviews the SHUTTERCASE Pro Camera Handle for Moment Lenses

It’s a case of comfort and user experience. In this review, I analyze what it feels like in hand and see what the added benefits are when putting a phone into it instead of shooting with a regular cover.

It’s well designed and feels like it’s made of proper quality materials. The handle has a faux-leather texture and can be removed if it’s not your preference. It’s a battery unit as well, so you’re phone’s charging while you’re using it and should last a good amount of time longer than just the phone’s battery, especially if you’ve just been arranging the day’s shoot with all the members concerned with calls, emails, and messages.

The best of all is that the case is made to mount Moment lenses. So if you’ve been shooting with their anamorphic or wide angle lenses, this cover and handle will be an upgrade.

The Good

Ergonomically, the case and grip makes a lot more sense for video shooters. The trigger button is moved to so you only need to use one hand when shooting. But, although there’s a thumb-rest attachment for more comfort, it felt quite natural to use my thumb to start recording, which seems unnatural, but felt comfortable.

  • The lenses can only turn one way when mounting it to the case, so there’s never a doubt whether you have it locked in place or not. It’s got some metal plating to protect the mount too, which will also give it longevity. This is something a regular Moment lens cover doesn’t have.
  • It’s got a battery that charges your phone, so you can shoot for longer and get all the details without having to take a break to charge the phone.
  • You can shoot using only one hand.

  • Using a grip instead of holding on to the phone alone gives you more stability. Even if you’re only using one arm, it definitely feels more stable than holding the phone with two hands.

The Not So Good

  • It’s not a case I will leave on my phone like I do with a regular Moment lens cover. It’s something I carry with me in my bag, but it doesn’t allow me to be as quick on the draw, although I also don’t go around with the Moment lenses attached, so it’s not really that much more effort to get the cover out or a change to my regular shooting workflow.
  • It’s important to disconnect the charging cable before removing your phone, or you might bend the plug or rip out the charging cable.
  • There is no sound input available when you use the battery to charge the phone.

The Final Scene

If you use your iPhone to shoot video for your projects, and if you use Moment lenses to do so, this case will be a great complement to the process. You can get the Battery Case and Grip here
