How to Dodge and Burn Photos in Lightroom



Dodging and burning is one of the most fundamental and versatile techniques any photographer can use to post-process their photos. However, you do not always need Photoshop to do it. This great video will show you how to dodge and burn your photos in Lightroom.

You might be used to using Photoshop for dodging and burning, and while it is certainly the place you want to be for complex and precise edits, for many images, you can accomplish everything you need in Lightroom, keeping your workflow much simpler and more straightforward. It is especially useful for things like landscape images, where you can use it to subtly draw the viewer’s eye through the image and to the subject. Similarly to Photoshop, the process is non-destructive, which means you can easily adjust your edits whenever you would like. Be sure to use a brush with a big feather for natural blending and turn the flow and density down, as you will want to gradually build up the effect for the best results.
