This is a great tutorial demonstrating how to rig a character in Maya for Unity or any other game engine.

This is how you would go about doing it the quickest way possible, I wouldnt consider it a standard or dignified practice. Should definitely spend a good amount of time painting weights to make sure the model doesnt bend like a wet noodle, and then design a character rig with controllers and other animation helpers as well if needed.
How would you use the same skinning method for Maya 2014? I really need some help Asap.
wow 🙂
Hello, can you do the same tutorial for second life?
Hello! I got 2 questions for you: every bone shouldn´t have zero rotation in all axes? So how can you rotate the arm the way you did? And this will generate warnings in the HIK definition "not parallel to the X axis", this could be ignored?
Thanks, just what i was looking for. Greeting from Honduras
Amazing Tutorial. A question, what is the best workflow for connecting some facial rigs to this? i mean eyes rotation for example. Just parenting to the superior joint of the head?
Great work, just wanted to let you know 🙂
And thank you by the way!
beautiful work . can you recommend me show reel of good rigger here on youtube? thanks
I'm working in maya 2015 and I got to the point where the bones have been colored but on the right side of my screen I do not have the "Character Controls". I'm new to this and I had created my own character and am not sure if I am able to access this, could someone help me out?
excus me sir… can we use same process for making an animation??
how to make the model to T-pose
I'm Using Maya 2017, and when i try to make skeleton it won't show up. Can you reply Asap please it will much appreciated!
my guys head got cruhed in the process lol!
When I try activating the control rig, my character mesh really gets messed up. Can someone explain whats happening? How its supposed to look http://imgur.com/a/epUJ9 and here how it looks after I activated the control rig http://imgur.com/a/UYmtL
Song?
i have a problem with my rig when i finish weight painting and import into unreal engine it looks blocky but it looks smooth in maya even after I subdivided it twice
so with method you don't need to Paint skin weights anymore
Was the 3d model you used for this a singular 3d object ( like 2 cubes fused together as one object) or a collection of 3d objects (like 2 cubes designated to the same group?) thanks
There should be a link to this tutorial in the Unity Documentation. Frickin awesome.
I Like it too much>>keep going my best youtuber 🙂
thnx man .helped so much
Well done ,, one of the best tutorials I have seen on here , I have been using Maya for a while now however
not for rigging I am just getting started on that , Is there any way you can use Maya to put riggs in Charactors
for games like second life , most people use blender but i dont like it .
I Like'd a lot! Thanks!
Question ! How to prevent file turning in to poop storm ? When re-opening in maya ?
The perfect number for max influences are 4, especially for Unity, which doesn´t allow you more than it. For Unreal you can use until 8 but for the best performance I recommend you 4 too.
why your maya is not like mine theres some changes or what ??
i saw many tutorials but this did the trick now how do i get my model to be my player character? 😀
