Africa is a headache for the old colonial powers. If they try to intervene when a madman gets into power then they're accused of being colonialists. Imperialists but if they stand back and do nothing, they're accused of not doing anything to help problems which have their routes back to 18th/19th century colonialism
This has pretty much been played out in most of the old colonial nations e.g. South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe etc. The best thing is to just stay out of it. At least fat cat lawyers can't start demanding money that way.
