  1. pay 50$/month for not being able to use "set driven key"? FAIL.
I wonder what a rigger/animator could do without set driven key tool which is essential, necessary and used in any tutorials/books/course videos since the beginning of time

  2. Really? I haven't tested out the latest versions of both softwares (i used maya 2009 and 3ds max 9), but Maya's unwrap always felt far more comfy to use. So much easier selecting the polys then just Ctrl+F12, aligning the points with Alt+arrow, unfolding on 1 axis only, merging polys without having your uvs explode… With max it was a true nightmare – and i learned Max first (however i only ever used Maya with scripts our technical artist made us). Did Max unwrap surpass Maya at some moment?

  3. Probably true but, you see, $4k bucks is alot of money, Some people cant make this amount even after a year working. Also Blender is open source and being developer by some random developers all over the world, while Autodesk is well organized empire.

  4. No, it uses OpenGL instead of DirectX, I don't know about shaders but I doubt it- This is geared towards game devs while Blender is an all-around 3d suite. You could argue that it -does- do most of this but you'd have to do a fair amount of work setting it up yourself and dealing with a very difficult to learn interface. This is an industry standard type of software that you take hundred dollar classes to learn while blender is popular with hobbyists.

  5. There's a student version of just regular Maya 2014, the LT version isn't out yet. LT has some limitations, like no MEL and Python scripting, which imo is a deal breaker. There's so many nice scripts out there made by the community, that are just now made useless if you bought this version. Try googling "students autodesk" if you just want to try regular Maya 2014. It's free.

  6. i tried it for the last hour and it was extremely easy and interface was really nice and understandable just like everything else in it

but i cant find the student version for this, does it exist or is it coming out soon?
(if anyone knows it would be greatly appreciated to see an answer)
