Just How Good Is the Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM Lens?

The 85mm wide-aperture portrait lens is often a calling card lens for a lot of companies, showcasing some of their best optics at one of the most popular focal lengths. How good is Sony’s version? This great video review tests it out to help you decide if it is right for you.

Coming to you from Dustin Abbott, this excellent video review takes a look at the Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM lens. The 85mm focal length is highly popular for all sorts of photographers, especially portraitists and wedding photographers, where its short telephoto length is flattering to features without flattening them and its wide aperture allows both for lots of light-gathering power and the ability to throw any background completely out of focus. Sony’s entrant is actually quite reasonably priced as far as this particular sort of lens goes (especially when compared to something like the new Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L), but it’s still more expensive than the highly lauded Sigma 85mm Art. Nonetheless, the Sony is a powerhouse piece of glass with some unique specs, and you might decide it’s worth the extra bit of money. Check out the video above to see Abbott’s full thoughts.
