this would be easier using a focus rail and a 1.1 micro lens. https://www.amazon.com/Tamron-Auto-Focus-60mm-2-0/dp/B002AAYYIW . Rail https://www.amazon.com/Tamron-Auto-Focus-60mm-2-0/dp/B002AAYYIW

Lightroom shift select all the pictures you need, right click and select Edit in -> Open as layers in PS, Go to edit Auto Align Layers and then Edit Auto Blend Layers

You and a couple of other photogs use a high f stop number. I thought were supposed to take advantage of the sweet spot, say f8 for focus stacking. I do understand it would take more images, but wouldn't it be a lot sharper?

Hi Tony, using another Edit In from LR, and PS CC, I end up with a Merged Layer. That's fine, but only one photographer video had that and he did not say what to do with the Merged and working layers. He just ended with the layers showing.

How do I get a final file if there is a Merged layer as well as working layers? How do I save out to a final File?
Delete all the working layers and save the merged one? Seems logical, but extra work.
Is there such a thing as highlight a layer and only saving that one, i.e. use the Merged layer for saving?
Merge all the layers together, including the Merged one?

Thanks for the informative video. When you say "zoom in" with the lens, you are simply changing the focus manually, correct? This is different than using a rail, where the focus is not changed but the camera is moved forward. It seems to me that changing the focus would not change the magnification of features in any given layer whereas moving the camera closer on a rail would enlarge them with relation to features on previous stacks. Which method is better, or does it depend on the image one is trying to capture?

Thank you so much for doing this! I saw an ad for stacking software, didn't realize it was built into PS? I have a new Hibiscus bloom in my yard. Excited to try. I do get frustrated with my tripod bc it's hard to get it set up in the perfect situation. I'm also frustrated with my new Macro lens, it's just not getting clear close up pictures as I thought it would? Ik it's bc of the focusing distance. I even bought extensions, but I haven't tried them with my Macro lens yet. not sure if it makes sense. thanks !!!!

Tony – great video. Very clear instructions and great tips. What Photoshop version are you using? I have Photoshop Elements 12 at the moment which does not match your video instructions. Thanks Tanya

Great video as usual! You may want to stick with a solid color shirt in the future instead of a tight stripe……as the video camera is confused and you get some moire patterns.
