Maya Dynamics Tutorial – Galaxy Particle Effects HD

Check out this awesome tutorial where you will learn how to create particles from a texture. You will be using the shape and the color information from a texture to emit particles and to transfer color values to the particles as-well.

  1. Hi and thank you for this nice tutorial. I've got a few questions. First, my particles take the shape of the galaxy but they also fill up the square shape that I created as the polygon surface, whereas your particles only take the form of a circular galaxy shape. How do I get around that? And secondly, I created duplicates of the galaxy to make a cluster of galaxies and I hit the render current frame button and it renders with no problem. However when I hit batch render, only the original galaxy particles are showing up and others suddenly disappear. Can someone help me? Thanks!

  2. I would have been nice had the author of said you can't render this using Maya Software or Mental Ray to begin with…just wasted 2 days of work and frustration trying to figure out how to get this to actually render. It's an otherwise nice tut, but TOTALLY USELESS if you have to use Maya Hardware to render it!

  3. Downloaded the project file, but i can't open them… Is it because you have a mac? Since i couldn't open the image, i had to create my black and white image in AE by using the Tint Effect. However, when i assign it, as depicted in the video, my texture doesn't appear. Any ideas?

  4. Great video! However I have one question. I am new to Maya and I'm wondering how you would put that together with for example a space ship without the gray background? I know, it's a noob question but I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks again!
