Maya tutorial on how to use a jaw bone to get your characters mouth to open and close. Covers joint placement and skinning needed to get the jaw to open the mouth. Uses Maya 2011 and a cartoonish low poly character head that I modeled.

  1. Hello. Thank you so much for the video! However, I have a question, on 11.29, your jaw can move your lower lips and combine well with your low teeth. Why the teeth of mine always drop whenever I move the jaw joint? Big Thx!! Hope you can respond soon.

  2. I always get an error whenever I try to add influence for the jaw and skin. something about Clusters.

Any advice would help. I tried finding things on the same matter by googling still couldn't find anything

  3. Thank you so much for the video! I understand so much now because of you. I know the model was just probably something you threw together but it was a bit hard to look at. lol

  4. protip, while you're painting weights, take whatever joint you're painting and rotate it around, set keys on typical points of rotation. Then to see the results of your paint you can just jog the frames instead of dropping paint, selecting joint, rotating, resetting, selecting mesh, and going back to paint 390823 times.
