This tutorial will show you how to create different types of glass in Autodesk Maya 2014. In two cases I will be using the mia_material_x option and in one case the dielectric_material option.

Great stuff, I have watched many of your tutorial videos, all exceptionally done, I was wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to model a simple stained glass window.
Learning
Mike Hermes !! you are the reason I got an A in my animation class ! Thank you so much ! I searched the web for videos that explain what is being done while its being done, no one has clarity about what they are doing, except you! your instructions on how to model things are awesome ! you are awesome ! your videos are the best way to learn animation !! Thank you SO much !! God bless you , keep making amazing videos! I wish I get to meet you some day! cheers !!
I do not have Mayatomr.mll I read on the Internet maya 2016 does not have this plugin I must download and install
I have a question i have no mia material what now
Hi, Can you model normal round shaped headlamps for vehicles? And please upload. Thank you!
Is there another option for those who have Maya 2017, for replacement of the mia_material_x ?
where can i get the textures?
Using Maya 7 Unlimited. Cant find"MIA_Material"…
mia_material_x is not present from where i can download it
can you go more in details please? I mean the material you add is not included in my case. Is it selfmade or something else? That would be great. Btw I think that you work is great, but there are not enough patreons to support you I think. Especially when I factor into calculation how much you release….stay strong
Saved me from turning in a late project for college.
Hey great videos. Is there any way I can message you privately to ask for help on specific things? Facebook, hangouts, gmail, or google+??
Can you make a new video on getting the mia_materials or otherwise some other glass textures in Maya 2016/2017 please? They got rid of them, and I can't figure out how to get any other textures.
this video is great. im looking for doing stuff on glass sculptures with reflections. I gotta learn Maya as part of my studies and im sick of videos taking 15 minutes on how to move camera or vertices around. What shader do you prefer if i want the light to break inside? Internet says i should use more physic based programms like houdini but i have only Autodesk programs
I have an particle effect inside my glass ball, and when I test render (mental ray), particles seems to not appear when its inside the glass ball but only renders when its outside? my transparency is all fine because i can see background but just not particles inside the object
This is very useful. Thank you.
very very helpful video but i could not find the "mia" material in my maya 2014 and yes sound is too low
plz do someting about that!! thank you
I can't find the material in new attributes, what do I do?

THANKS!!!
Its like Mike reads my mind. I just logged into youtube to learn about glass materials and BAM first tutorial: creating glass types. Just awesome!
Thanks, subscribed!
Super helpful, thank you so much!
Hi Mike, I'm a Subscriber of yours. I can't find help from anyone else, i hope you can help me. I don't know if you're away of the Star Wars Clone Wars series The 3d modelled and animated one starting in 2008). Im FASCINATED with the Clones themselves in this show. But I'm new to modelling and am have a VERY difficult time learning how to model their helmets. Now, the normal helmet's seem ok. (I've modelled Jango Fett's helmet almost too perfection). But my problem lies in the Phase 2 Armor. At the bottom of each helmet (like the newers – or older stormtrooper helmets once you realise they're from 1977). Rather than being just a triangle pointed out, they have these tubes going around the circumference of the bottom of the helmet, which i presume is for speech and breathing Apparatus. Im having a difficult time transitioning from standard box modeling, edge extrusion etc, to being able to then somehow build these kind of complicated looking tube systems around the bottom of the mask with speaker and breathing holes on the front. If you get me, any tips?
Mike, I dont have mia_whatever_x in my software. What to do?
subscribed 🙂
Great tutorial thanks
Im on maya 2016 and i dont have a "workarea" which shows my dielactric icon to drag and drop it on the object.
So i wasnt sure – i clicked the object and clicked on the material on the attribute editor. But there is no "Surface material" or "Shading group attributes" ;_;
great!
