This tutorial will show you how to create different types of glass in Autodesk Maya 2014. In two cases I will be using the mia_material_x option and in one case the dielectric_material option.

  1. Mike Hermes !! you are the reason I got an A in my animation class ! Thank you so much ! I searched the web for videos that explain what is being done while its being done, no one has clarity about what they are doing, except you! your instructions on how to model things are awesome ! you are awesome ! your videos are the best way to learn animation !! Thank you SO much !! God bless you , keep making amazing videos! I wish I get to meet you some day! cheers !!

  2. can you go more in details please? I mean the material you add is not included in my case. Is it selfmade or something else? That would be great. Btw I think that you work is great, but there are not enough patreons to support you I think. Especially when I factor into calculation how much you release….stay strong

  3. this video is great. im looking for doing stuff on glass sculptures with reflections. I gotta learn Maya as part of my studies and im sick of videos taking 15 minutes on how to move camera or vertices around. What shader do you prefer if i want the light to break inside? Internet says i should use more physic based programms like houdini but i have only Autodesk programs

  4. I have an particle effect inside my glass ball, and when I test render (mental ray), particles seems to not appear when its inside the glass ball but only renders when its outside? my transparency is all fine because i can see background but just not particles inside the object

  5. Hi Mike, I'm a Subscriber of yours. I can't find help from anyone else, i hope you can help me. I don't know if you're away of the Star Wars Clone Wars series The 3d modelled and animated one starting in 2008). Im FASCINATED with the Clones themselves in this show. But I'm new to modelling and am have a VERY difficult time learning how to model their helmets. Now, the normal helmet's seem ok. (I've modelled Jango Fett's helmet almost too perfection). But my problem lies in the Phase 2 Armor. At the bottom of each helmet (like the newers – or older stormtrooper helmets once you realise they're from 1977). Rather than being just a triangle pointed out, they have these tubes going around the circumference of the bottom of the helmet, which i presume is for speech and breathing Apparatus. Im having a difficult time transitioning from standard box modeling, edge extrusion etc, to being able to then somehow build these kind of complicated looking tube systems around the bottom of the mask with speaker and breathing holes on the front. If you get me, any tips?

  6. Im on maya 2016 and i dont have a "workarea" which shows my dielactric icon to drag and drop it on the object.
    So i wasnt sure – i clicked the object and clicked on the material on the attribute editor. But there is no "Surface material" or "Shading group attributes" ;_;

  7. this is also nice tutorial but there is a prob in my Maya I don't have Mental ray so please tell me how can i get Mental ray. Because of Mental ray I'm facing many problem and not give a good quality.
