Creation of a rope – wire in Maya
Draw a curve. I’m with locators easier to move comfortably. (select edit point – point on curve)

what script you use at 3:20? my mesh deforms horribly when i move the joints.
I don't know when I extrude cylinders they merge
Can you Help me? :/
Very classic and easy to understand, thanks so much!
Awesome Technique man
One reason extruding might now work, is the fact that the curve has an end and a start point. Too many times, I place the shape I extrude at the end and expect it to work… You need the shape that is being extruded at the start of the curve. Then select the shape, select the curve, extrude and then it works.
I followed your guide . But at 2:27, it didn't become the rope. There were other 4 circles at the other end of the line
no sound? That's not very helpful. I'm following along but when I do the extrude step nothing happens. EDIT: So it turns out I was selecting the object instead of the faces.
how do i change the thickness after i have extruded?
Making ropes is amazingly easy. You dont even need a tutorial. The tricky part is to uv mapping and texturing… and thats the part that so many people want to find tutorials for. We already know how to make wires and ropes in maya, it is one of the most easiest things to do. We want to learn the hard stuff.
how did you do the 1:10 ?
Спасибо, очень полезно
my Cv curbe tool doesnt work, when i do extrude doesnt work. Help pls!
making the curve is the hardest part, is there any way to make it easier? tying a knot with the curve is SO HARD. especially when your making medieval stuff that have ropes in everything and if you want to be realistic you need to make so many types of knots.
this was super smart and I had never thought this through until now- but using CV curves reminds me of when I was a pastry chef; if you have a "stencil" or a certain cut out shape then extrude that along in any way you can create patterns that look completely different as you pull it along or twist it. Very similar to making spritz cookies or designing different flower shapes with a piper in baking. lol Does anyone have an idea of how to create a ribbed pattern like a pipe that you see connected to a washing machine though? I can't figure that one out
How did he move the center point at 0:42 ???
Great thanks, what script did you use to attach all the locators to the curve points? Thanks
How do you draw the curve around the object. Its hard for me to free hand it in that specific area.
wow! Thanks a ton!
Awesome, man. I love your tuts.
You've earned a subscription.

Wonderfull!!! Thanks very much mate!

Hi I am having some trouble with this function and wondering if you could help. I am using Maya 2014 and each time I hit extrude my object doesn't go in a line it just goes forward slightly making a dis-functional shape which looks very strange. I have tried freeze transformation and center pivot and different extrude values but the same thing keeps happening??
nice tut
Thank you for this tutorial 🙂
Very creative and simple.
Pls help me. What exactly are you doing at Minute 1:10 ??? How do you convert them to circles?
Hi Bro, I need to do wire growing after making this, like wire is creating itself in Animation, I tried every step but I didn't get that. can you help me ?? Thanks!

Intro to CV Curve Tool and Revolve
Yeah, I like that is is short and explains everything in pictures. I get a headache from some of the other guys tutorial talking. And they don't even work accurately or good.
Oh, thx man, great 🙂
Thx the tutorial, great 🙂
I made it, but I don't know what do you do at 2:54? Please help 🙂
Thanks for the quick and easy tutorial!
how did you specifically draw this curve !?
Super Helpful!! thanks :–)
Even without audio is a very good tutorial.
define shape with topolgy and extrude it, bevel it if necessery and offset some verts to give it organic look. later on you need to define material with diff, nrm and spec and thats it
BOLSHOE SPASIBA 🙂 TOVARISHI
alright thx, will try that:)
after the extrusion I can't move the locators anymore. I saw you pressed a button from your shelf but I am wondering what kind of button that was.
awesome but one question:) what did u press to be able to move the locators at the end?
this was an awesome way. thanks so much!
Excellent ! Really aporeciate this as you have helped solve a great task …Much appreciated …;-)
