October is shaping up to be our Most Open Month for several reasons. First, we’re gearing up for All Things Open 2015 (ATO), which will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina, October 19 – 20. In a special All Things Open exclusive preview and discount newsletter we sent out yesterday, we offered subscribers a 20% off registration discount code, and we provided a sneak peek at what we have planned for the event and who will be speaking at the Opensource.com-sponsored Lightning Talks on Tuesday, October 20.
If you aren’t a newsletter subscriber, sign up to receive weekly updates and the occasional special newsletter. Here’s what you missed in yesterday’s newsletter: All Things Open exclusive preview and discount.
Most Open Month
In October, we’re also kicking off a new series—My Open Source Story—and highlighting first-time Opensource.com contributors. This month we’re extending a special invitation to anyone in the open source community who would like to write for us. If you have questions about how to submit your story, let us know in the comments, or you can find editors and community moderators in our Freenode IRC channel: #opensource.com.
Event interviews and reports
We started our All Things Open Series with speaker interviews in September, and in October we will publish more interviews and reports from the event. Follow our Instagram account to see photos from the event, in addition to Jason Hibbet‘s updates from the Code for America Summit, my updates from LinuxCon Europe, and Jen Wike Huger‘s snapshots from the 2015 Grace Hopper Celebration of Women.
Later this month, we’ll have a series of interviews with OpenStack Summit Tokyo. We’ll also interview USENIX LISA15 speakers. Register for LISA15 by October 15th to get the early bird discount.
Coming soon
Looking ahead to our November editorial calendar, we’re calling for articles for our Open Source Food and Beverage theme. Do you use an open source app for managing recipes or brewing beer? Have you put a Raspberry Pi project to use in the kitchen? We want to hear your stories, so send us a proposal.
In December, we’ll look back at the past 12 months in our 2015 Yearbook series. Would you like to tell us about the top 2015 news from your open source project or organization? Send us your yearbook idea.
Join the Opensource.com community to keep up with what’s going on in the world of open source.
