If you’re like me you may have had some issues using xgen to create fur and get it to render correctly using Renderman. Here’s a short tutorial to overcome the bug that (I assume) is preventing people from doing this.
**Solving the camera orientation issue**
-Go to Windows – SettingsPreferences – Preferences.
-On the left side of the Preferences Window select Animation.
-For the Evaluation Mode setting choose DG and then test the image plane. It should now work as expected.

Thanks to user Ryan Ware for the tip, greatly appreciated!

Hi! Whenever I combine meshes, all fur (on one or some meshes) dissapears entirely. It looks strange and stretched if I reapply it on th combined mesh.
Why?
Thanks
Finding my hair is not rendering at all. Guess I'll just have to keep playing with it until it shows up.
Hi, seems like an easy enough tutorial to follow, however I have followed perfectly countless times up to 4:24 in the video but see no results other than the Disney texture loading. Desperate for help. Thanks bud!
Thank you so much of your sharing this fucking bugging frustrating problem. I was gonna get crazy.
Thank you!!
Not sure if you fixed your camera issue as I cannot be bothered reading the comments, But change your camera evaluation mode in settings to DG (its parallel by default)… thanks for this video mate.. massive.. chur.
man help, why can't I load renderman 20 on my maya 2016? does anyone know why
Hey. You mind helping me out?I'm trying to render out the fur, but when the frames render in batch render, the fur doesn't appear. Do you know why?
i added an xgen fur test to a basic sphere mesh, and despite following the tutorial, the only thing that renders out is the mesh itself, no hair…?
This was really helpful, I feel as though xGen is an un-intuitive fur system, so new tutorials are certainly great to see. I do have one question though, would you ever be willing to do a UV mapping tutorial for xGen? I've only ever seen one video on the subject, since xGen only takes Ptex natively. I'm very much in the same boat when it comes to nearly breaking my keyboard in half trying to get xGen to work, and at this point I've run into so many issues that I just stopped using it entirely.
I created a project on the desktop and created my scene but it still doesn't render and there is no error. I assigned it a PxrMarschnerHair but it still doesn't work. And yes it's set to renderman. It used to work for me but it suddenly stopped working one day.
great stuff! thanks.
fantastic video !
Idk, for some reason it just… doesn't render the hair. Other materials seem to be fine, am I missing something?
I did exactly the same as you in the video, the hair appears in the viewport then… nothing.
Man, I just can't get it to work. I've tried everything. I always get an error.
