Sculpting stone in Blender with Dynamic Topology

In this time-lapse video we’ll see stone sculpting with Dynamic Topology. 3 brushes were used: Scrape/Peak brush, Clay Strips and Crease.

Scrape/Peak brush (like Zbrush “Trim brush”) will be explained in the upcoming quick tip. Stay tuned!

I get to 48 seconds, and get the trim brush. then it switches to dynotopo at 15 detail size, and you switch to clay strips brush 75 radius and .34 strength, subtract (though it seems to highlight add, you are subtracting from the rock), and when I do this almost nothing happens. I tried messing with the strength of dynotopo too. And turning off dynotopo..

  2. Also, you mentioned you use a tablet…how are you able to move the camera so fluidly with a tablet? I'm having to switch back and forth with mouse and tablet and it is really inconvenient. Thanks.

  3. I followed this video closely but I am not getting the results seen in this video. Using the same sculpt tool with the same settings produces very soft shapes, not the sharp results that I would like to have. So the rock for me just ends up looking like a chunk of clay rather than a nice sharp looking stone.

  4. Cool, do you use a graphics tablet? Btw. i like to sculpt in Sculptris (it has dynamic topology too) and if Blender has similar feeling + more functionality, then i'll be amazed 🙂 Gonna try it today…
