Hey everyone! In this video we go over a simple way to create characters in blender. This video is focused on modelling inside of blender, the next one will teach rigging and weight painting.

  1. To make life easier, you can set the pivot point to 3D Cursor, center the cursor, press Shift + D, then ctrl + M and either X or Y. That mirrors the object perfectly across the 3D Cursor in whichever axis you want.

  2. Hi nice video man 🙂 and about rotating objects you can hit R and type the value like 180 degree and then hit enter instead of doing in it manually with the mouse and this works also when scaling or doing other thing that require a value you just type it 😉 , also you can use either mirror modifier to make the model symmetrical or you can duplicate the hand for example and hit Ctrl+M then choose the axis you want the object to be mirrored to, and you've got a new subscriber plz keep making videos like these 🙂

  3. As a begginer in Blender I want to share this with other people, when you rotating or moving stuff (eg on axis) you can punch in numbers on your keyboard and it will move rotate object. For example when rotating objects after pressing R key just choose the axis (I think i was X in this case) and punch in 90 or -90 (negative values work too, if they dont the first time, go back and try again). Hope it will help someone. 🙂

  4. Nice tutorial for beginners 🙂
For beginners I can add the modelisation is easier in orthographic view mode (numpad 5) and by using different view type front, right, top etc by pressing numpad 1,3,7.

  5. Love it. Looking forward to all the other parts of this as well!
Considering joining in on the jam also, but not quite made up my mind yet.
But again, so great that you show all the different steps and stringing it together for a complete picture.

  6. Hi Mat, thanks for the great video. I wanted to talk about a great tool that is "bevelling". You hit ctrl+b and you can create that chamfered edge that you did on the top/bottom. It's also better than extruding and scaling because if you roll your mouse wheel up/down, you can choose the LoD of the edge.
Also, if you hold alt, you can select the edge/face loop of an object.
    Hope that helped!

  7. I know I've said it a bunch of times, but thanks so much. I love how polished and clear all of your videos are. Simple enough so it is easy to follow but also easy to apply to something more complicated. Really looking forward to the next two videos for this.

  8. There is a way to show the buttons that you are pushing, it's hard for new blender users to follow the tutorial without a visual feedback (they keep going back to hear what button you press).
