The Healing Brush, Spot Healing Brush, and Patch tool are are healing options that I use very much when retouching photographs. These tools are very much “touch and feel” tools that you really want to start using to figure out how best they work for you. There is no better set of tools in Photoshop for cleaning up spots and unwanted objects in a picture than this set of healing tools. Today we’re going to focus on the Healing Brush.

  1. I don't prefer to smear textures, especially in the face, so I use the patch tool instead. If you don't mind being 'sloppy' to 'get the job done', I guess you could choose this method, but there are other, imo, better ways to deal with anything that looks 'funky'.

  2. I don't recommend using the lasso to exclude areas like he does.Β  You can get better results in most cases by very carefully choosing the sample area , and/or reducing brush size.Β  Like he says, with practice it gets easier and you learn what to look for when picking the sample location.Β  If you're working near the edge of a contrasting area, paint from the edge line to the edge line.Β  Or you can sample/paint away from the edge IF the center of your sample and paint brush are the exact number of pixels away from the edge — which may require some trial and error.

  3. You're such an inspiration for me man ! Presently, I'm studying in publicity at college and I need to work with Photoshop. With your tutorials, I'm always one step ahead of what I learn in class and it really makes my student life easier. Thanks again and keep up your good work πŸ™‚ (sorry for my poor English, it's not my first language :S)

  4. Good tutorial. I never used this tool ever and would always use clone stamp, but man I been using this the past few months and it's amazing. The before and after of the pic you just did took only a few minutes and has a great outcome. Shows how powerful the tool is.
