'What You Shouldn't Waste' Reminds Us How to Live

How often do you catch yourself procrastinating or just dozing through the latter half of a day? This great short film reminds us to make the most of each day.

If we’re lucky, we get 30,000 days on this mortal coil. And yet, I find it easy to procrastinate or let the days roll by, always assuming there’s another around the corner. To paraphrase a famous poker saying: “that strategy works every time except once.” I’ve gotten better about doing what I want to do with my time, but it’s something I can always improve. This great short film from Mango Street captures those sentiments. It’s easy as creatives to bury ourselves in our work, and while we may enjoy it (why are we creatives in the first place otherwise?), there’s more to life than that, and finding the balance to find contentment in the ordinary can be tough. There’s a certain tendency in our culture to overwork ourselves and medicate with the occasional vacation or the like, but instead of being perpetually dissatisfied only to briefly reset the meter, what if we could find contentment in the normalcy of each day? That’s how you know you’ve won at life, at least in my opinion.
