2022 Will Likely Bring a Lot of New Canon Cameras

Canon was a little slow in the mirrorless game at first, but once the EOS R5 and RF 28-70mm f/2L arrived, the company showed that they had their foot on the gas and had no intention of letting up. It looks like that trend will continue into 2022, with a bevy of new cameras likely to arrive.

Canon Rumors is reporting that 2022 will be “The Year of the Camera Body” for Canon, with multiple new and exciting bodies coming from the company. Even though the EOS R3 just recently hit shelves, helping to further round out the lineup established by the EOS R5 and EOS R6, along with the affordable EOS RP and original EOS R, there is still a lot of room to grow, including cinema cameras, a true flagship, APS-C bodies, and a high-resolution option, all of which had DSLR analogs in the EF mount lineup. And with the way Canon has generally mirrorless that EF lineup with their RF releases, it seems reasonable to expect such options to eventually appear.

With the EOS R long in the tooth and the EOS RP not far behind, we will likely see at least one budget body released, while a mirrorless analog to the ever-popular 7D series would not be surprising. Along with that, an EOS R5c is expected in early 2022, while the flagship EOS 1 is likely to appear late in the year or early in 2023. While there could be more and timelines could shift given the ongoing chip shortage, it seems that Canon has big plans when it comes to RF mount cameras.
