Shadow Catcher has been a long time awaited feature in Cycles. He had it in Blender Render, but Cycles was lacking it. It’s finally available and in this video I explain how it works, how to use it to integrate 3D in a real image, and I also show how this used to be done before shadow catcher, because even if it will be an outdated method… it’s still interesting to know!
I hope you like it! 😀

its cool man ^^,
How to make Eevee LukDev ?
Thank you, Oliver! It helped me a lot to understand Compositing in Blender. Especially also the old method, as you show the work with layers. Greetings from Germany
Great in cycles. But in blender internal?
Liked and subbed my man! Thanks for this
Couldn't you have used motion capture?
the interface needs to be changed like vue and blender and daz
please
Thanks for video. This methods to catch shadow are very simple, but they have one flaw. There is no light from floor on embedded object. In reality bottom part of monkey must be coloured in yellow by light reflected from ground. To fix the flaw you should set plane colour similar to ground colour in video.
If someone can help me with issue. Despite I’m paying attention to every single detail, I noticed something wrong.
A scene with Spaceship levitating few feets from asphalt do not cast light to ground. When I turn on Shadow Catcher light emitted from spaceship is no more visible on ground. AO and shadows are correctly there. Helppppppp!
Ah Blender!! I really love that software!! <3
I wish they add cycles render to game engine
Hey Oliver (Blender Tutorials), I Don't Have A Shadow Catcher. Mine IS Blender 2.74, And I Found The Alternative One, Similar To Shadow Catcher. Right Click on The Plane Object, Add A Material, Scroll Down To Find Shadow Panel, Open the Shadow Panel, Check Shadows Only, Change To Shadow Only In the Shadow Type, Render it. Done!

not show cycle setting in my blender 2.79 version please help?
Hello and thank you for your help! What if I want the shadow catcher to receive shadows ONLY from a certain object/s ?
Fantastic!!!
Wait…all these while it doesn't have it ? Wow….
I am more surprised by THAT then the fact that it have it now.
Your title is a bit confusing. I'd suggest you change it to "CG + reality is easier now", because 3D is already reality. 😛
Hey you said you were back doing tutorials. 4 months and nothing! I miss your tuts they are amazing
I fucking love your channel, man
y las reflexiones?
I don't understand anything here – just started learn blender month ago. :<<<
If there is objects in real life footage appearing infront of the model. Will stuff behind a shadow catcher turn invisible? Like if you placed an object behind a material with Sky shader 100% on in Blender Render?
Just imagine the features blender 3.0 would have
wich build is it?
This video helped me so much I appreciate it!
loved your book
Is there a way to make an object mask other objects in cycles?
I have install blender 2.78.4 for 32 bit, but I didn't find shadow catcher slot. Is it just for 64 bit?
THANK YOU!!
Awesome video, Awesome due!
At 0:50 my jaw dropped. This will be a huge improvement!
oh for crying out loud. It's about time.
Muchas gracias. Me encanta como explicas las cosas. Las haces muy comprensibles.
1:33 Why does nobody ever use the predefined window layouts?
I'm pretty sure I have done this with a transparent material that accepts shadows, without all this hassle. It's nice that they are making it simple, though.
