Whaaa! NO, alcohol is the drink of idiots. You never mix photography and alcohol. Unless you want to be unprofessional.
Gosh, it would be nice if you guys would look at portfolios of people who DO NOT want to be professional photographers. Some of us have landscapes, family, whatever photos that we like to share with our friends but have no desire to sell anything.
lets be honest first portfolio was crap
First time ever me seeing people needing alcohol to rate portfolios, lol. I guess it's huge stress like before a flight or a test.
See 5:35 in the video: In Germany and Europe as well "Amateur Photographer" is a usual definition for someone, who`s doing this as a hobby, not as a profession to earn his living or who does regularly get paid for shootings, but it doesn`t mean he`s doing this all for free or he doesn`t publish or sell his photos. Normally it says nothing about the quality of his photos. There are many talented amateurs, just as there can be "professional" photographers who lack talent. There are some successful amateurs whose photos are on a very high level and sometimes even better than professional ones. Sorry, but this portfolio you`ve chosen isn`t a good example of a German amateur photographer, because it`s too boaring overall with only average photos and average models, nothing fancy, no eye-catcher and a little bit out of fashion. That`s not a ideal way to present oneself worldwide, especially if one wants to sell photos or get paid for a shooting. The internet is a worldwide media – that`s what most people still don`t realize. So a professional acting presentation and portfolio should be a little bit more outstanding and first of all weekly updated on a certain day, every sunday for instance, to present current photos and projects. It also should be more personal and not a pre-assembled mass product. If one isn`t fit enough to do this, there are professional web designers to do the job.
How do you call those "amateur" photographers in the USA, because it seams to me, that you both can`t do anything with this term and have seen it for the first time?
damn you, now I want a beer…
Good vid! I like how the wine kicks in around the 13:00 mark with Chelsea, lol
God vídeo
I have a question..does Square space have a print service like smugmug? or is there a good option to let customers order and get prints through similar services(automated) or do you have to print and mail it yourself?
great videos. congrats!
You guys are so much nicer than Zach Arias and his wife. They are much harsher than you guys are. Can be good and bad. Still like it =]
Great constructive critique, which will truly help the participants. Just one pet peeve about the video. It's probably because I've been watching a lot of Wes Anderson movies of late and he's big on balance/ symmetry. I just find it jarring that the camera and lens in frame looks like a cannon just blasting away at Tony's head every time it cuts back to Tony and Chelsea and I doubt that Tony has the Scarface persona to attract that sorta attention.
A "How to horizontal and vertical align your pictures" would be appreciated.
This seems to be more of a website critique rather than the actually images. – Would have been nice to see some better critiques on the pictures or the selections itself. Or rather how many one should submit in a portfolio section (maybe 8- 14 example?)
Hey tony. What lenses would you recommend for me. I'm new to photography and I have a nikon d7100. I'm trying to do senior portraits and weddings.
Every time I look at chelsea I see
Robin from how I met your mother
I think if "Mamma" had another glass of wine she would probably be up on the table singing drunken sailor songs…. But another great vid guys, thank you.
what a great timing uploading this videos during the weekend, this way I have something interesting to watch, my cable package sucks, thank you guys for such great videos.
I can't finish watching this yet BUT I have all ready learned many things so far! Gotta cook dinner now and I would like to thank you anyway 🙂
Great vid as usual guys. I don't know if this request would be your normal forte. On your recommendation I have had an SS site for a several months now, I applaud their ease of use (even for a dummy like me) and their customer service. However I would love for you guys to do a tutorial on getting your SS site out there on google, SS doesn't offer any help with that, I don't think I'm the only one thats finding this difficult either. I still can't get my site on google and every time I try I just end up getting frustrated and give up. I wish SS offered some simple help with that without being an SEO wiz kid.. You could have the greatest website in the world but if it can't be found it's pretty useless. Keep up the good work..
Thanks for the review Tony and Chelsea. And Chelsea, I'm glad that you were eventually ok with seeing me naked… laughs.
Is the lens and camera behind Tony's head the one from the nature photography video?
Guys, what do you think of nude photography?
Their book is exceptional…buy it now!!!!
At 2:12 her nose doesn't break the plane of the face, good shot 🙂 2:25 now this is what I was talking about with hands, good job. Tony, when you shoot pics of Chelsea are you MORE picky of her photos than any other client/model?
Hey Tony! Great video same as the other ones 😉 I noticed that you are using a Dell Precision 4700 or 4800 if I am not wrong. This is the laptop that I want to upgrade to :). I wanted to ask you if you are planning of doing a video about this segment of the photography, laptops/computers for workflow, why some people use Apple products and others use pc/windows based computers, etc. I think it would be interested, not just for me but for other followers as well and I didn't find as many videos regarding this topic. Regards and good light 😉 Alex S.
The First pic at 1:14, I was always taught pretty much never photograph a womans hand with the Thumb side like this as it makes her hand look clubbish and large. The one on the far Right has too much of the Whites of her eyes showing, the pupils should follow the nose more. Many photogs may feel this is picky but if you ever enter a picture for Merit in the PPA contests the judges will tear you up. Since they don't know your in the audience they are 100% honest 🙁 Sometimes it hurts thinking you've got a winner and you get a lousy score of under 70. But good criticism is always helpful if you try to correct the flaws they mention.
Ugh… I really need a website
Another well made and enjoyable video, thanks guys.
I like the shorter format, easier to stay with till the end, great work.
All great critiques, and not to harsh I might add you guys inspire people to do better with there portfolio which in turn will make them better photographers, thanks for the great video.
Thanks Tony & Chelsea for checking my portfolio – Nag Rotte
