Since Blender 2.70, Cycles can render volumetrics. This tutorial shows how to use a homogeneous volume and anisotropy to great advantage.

Sir, you are very good teacher. Your explanations of each function is much appreciated. Too many people are putting out tutorials which are merely step-by-step, paint-by-numbers (if you understand me) lessons. That type of lesson has it's place, especially, when teaching absolute beginners, but, at some point one needs to understand WHY things work the way they work. Thanks for a great lesson. One like and one subscribe. Cheers.
Thanks for tutorial. I am at present trawling through volummetric lighting tutorials to grasp how to use this lighting for an early morning mist scene. So far tutorials all about strong contrast of light and dark. Any advise on how to use VL for daylight scenes would be very much appreciated.
Awsome tutorial chief..
I couldn't skip ahead because I am not on your website. I wanted volumetric lighting. That is what you should teach in a volumetric lighting tutorial. Not how to set up your demo.
I didn't bother watching.
Great tutorial as usual. So glad I discovered you!
Nice tutorial. My adaptation can be seen in the first 10 seconds of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3efSH4BsiYM – It still needs a bit of finetuning on my side though. Thanks a lot for saving me many hours of trial and error! 🙂
Thank you very much, I think this technique should always be used for global illumination, because our atmosphere is always full of volume. a very usefull lesson
thank you very much for this tutorial, all your tutorials are so amazing! One question: at 8:20 when you set the Volume to 0 i was surprised it cleared up faster as i expected 0 means infinite/as many bounces as needed and only 1,2,3… are limiting numbers.
thanks !
I know that Cycles does everything backwards, but I still don't really understand how that would work. Like if there are rays coming from the camera why don't you see any light coming from it?
A very excellent tutorial! I learnt a lot. Little things, big things, ideas etc. Great, thank you!
Wonderful tutorial, could you correct subtitle generated by youtube? English is not my first language, and the some wrong words in subtitle always confuse me.
Hi , warum macht ihr eure Tutorials hauptsächlich in English ?? Währe es nicht besser das in Deutsch zu erklären ?
"lets start by deleting the cube! Now, let's add a cube!". well, this is going to be AWESOME!!!!
GIWI Blender 2 71 volumetric My response video!!
Usefull, but you dont need to use your time for preparing a simple scene : )
Great Tutorial ! Thank you.
Really good information. The anisotropy feature really opens up the possibilities of not having the resulting renders appear hazy.
Try to activate GPU rendering for the viewport next time 😉
Awsome, thank you!
