WOW
Love your videos so much !!!!
Legitimate question, does his work still hold on modern times? Like all his pictures look so much like others today, with the only distinct difference I can see is the impressive use of grayscale for more than an insta filter, like for example I can type "landscape" into Google and get a million results of pictures of what look like similar quality at least in terms of how pleasing to the eye they are.
Pls don't hate
One of my favourite photographers, along with Bill Brandt and Edwin Smith. All of them have not just a command of technique but that indefinable sense of place that makes them stand out from the rest.
This video is one of the most important videos that everyone should watch.
Thankyou for this video.
I'm a photography enthusiast but I'm still learning and watching this video made me realise and recognize my own thought process when I click a picture.
Definitely a fresh and informative perspective.
Keep up the good work! (:
I have a few small prints of Ansel Adams work hanging up that I got from a book from the 60s that was falling apart I've always loved his style and how great a photographer he was. Our culture has been over saturated with ho hum pictures with no intention behind them drowning out great photographers past and present.
YEA potential is wonderful
Great video Evan!
Amazing.
I work at a print shop where we print his books. Its cool seeing the original photographs when theyre brought in for comparison.
Visualisation is why I now shoot film far more than I ever have. It's much more satisfying to use your mind to make a photograph way before you ever see the result.
Bravo. I just started watching your videos, and I appreciate the quality and passion that you put into them.
More on photography pls
I have a big picture of a frozen tree. It says Ansel Adams at the bottom. Now I know who he was. I found it the garbage.
Hey Nerdwriter, can you do a video on Patrick Nagel?
BTW, I'm a big fan of you.
Nerdwriter1, your intention is much appreciated even with the two images that weren't Ansel's. You should now do a video on Edward Weston, (and his descendents, Brett, Kim and Zach) one of the greatest photographers of all time, a senior and good friend to Ansel. His work set the standard by which all other photographers aspire to, even today, 80 years later. His grandson, Kim and great-grandson, Zach, are continuing to work today in his tradition. You'll have to do your homework on this one. Thanks.
You have the best content on youtube right now
Reminds me of Oatmeal's comic on photography when you are on a vacation.
I really enjoyed this one. Great editing, you set a great mood.
what is the name of the song in the background? 🙂
Expose for the shadows, develop for the highlights.
The photograph of half dome at 0:35 is not by Ansel Adams. It is a photograph by Bob Kolbrener titled "Portrait of Half Dome, 2006".
Thank you.. I'm going to get back into photography now.. It's been years.
@nerdwriter1 please make an essay about cooking
The Neil Spiel photography is a beautiful medium. But the way it can be easily monetised saturates the world with rich kids with high end rigs who produce cookie cutter passable photos for a hefty price is pretty sad :/
timeless photographs
"Tonal balance." understatement
the explanations for me, the man who doesnt know a lot about photography, is super deep, but at the same time understandable. But for what does experts thinking about it? Is it superficial?
Wow- as a photographer that really struck a chord with me. I don't think it could have been described any better. Thank you for making these videos!
What piece/song/track starts at 4:35
Been waiting for this my whole life.
man you are amazing nerdwriter!
Thank you for your videos
Wow, I probably have seen Adams work before. But now that you have introduced me to his methods I have to get to know his work better. Thanks man!
eye opening!
I wonder what he would have thought of HDR photography?
Your videos are so healthy for my creativity, I watch them and rewatch them ever so often just to keep my brain in good condition. Thank you for this gift.
P.S I hope that one day, I can watch a full-lengh documentary made by you. Not to replace this excellent format, but to complement it 🙂
I love Ansel Adams. He's like a kind and wise old grandpa.
what happened to your microphone?
