In this tutorial you will discover how to:
Use the explode modifier correctly to break apart your mesh
Slow down time by tweaking particle settings
Use force fields to give your particles an extra ‘kick’
Create thousands of shards of glass in one fell swoop

cant find tweaking particle settings in blender how
How do you let the sphere with the image have effect on the glass shards but not show up in the final render?
Have been following your videos for about 4 years now. Great work!
nice tutorial, word of advice tho You should slow down when doing a "tutorial".
My little shards are just falling down
thanks to u i was able to create a pretty good intro
thanks again
Is this inspired from Split Second?
Hi Andrew, why are my little tiny glass shards just in one letter. When I play the ainimation they are just grouped in one letter(L).I can t fix the problem can you help me?
Im trying to make glass in blender with Cycles. In the senario I have, the light is right next to the glass. I cannot find out why the glass that I render is not see through. The light hits the glass and the bright light renders onto the glass as if its an opaque object. I have tried fiddling with IOR and such but to no luck. Got an idea off the top of your head as to what it is im missing?
Just want to mention to anyone new to blender that your particle system has to go before the explosion in the modifiers section otherwise it will appear that your explosion mod isn't working….
Great tutorial. Little remark:
IOR = Index of reFRACtion, not reflection
jejejej ohhh men turn off the mobile
By now there's a new tool for those messed up text objects, it's called the remesh modifier. Very nifty modifier and everything just gets orkable again.
Another great tutorial Andrew. I hit a problem at around 15.50: when I try to enter the shard group into the render group box "duplicate group". There's nothing in the drop down and when I type it in, the name doesn't go in (instead of going black it disappears). I appear to have followed your instruction accurately to that point. Any idea what might be wrong?
what would you do if someone would give you a modeling task and put like 3ds max in your face? i bet you'd just download blender and do the task 😀
Haha. I thought about the excact same song when you said "lets talk about text" xD
Where did you get sound effect
How to make end of animation like u? the glass was transform to text.
How you save yours animations.
Help my please.
So basically
i like it but i thing you are maybe a bit too fast 😉
Is it a bugg in Blender, when I try to add second particle system it crasches! What to do?
This technique doesn't work for solid objects… What about the Fracture Me plugin in blender, could you do a tutorial about it?
Actually this has already been answered by Crysis97 and he is correct. You have to change the start/end emission values of the particle system to determine which frame the effect start.
My guess is u would start baking the cache at the frame u want it to explode when it hits the ground.
Or Just render 2 animations and just put em together in the video editor. 😛
Just set the start of the particle system to be what ever you want.
So is there a DIFFERENT shattered glass tutorial on blenderguru? I've been watching these videos on youtube because my school blocks blenderguru, and I'm having serious doubts…
Never mind, for future reference just flip the normals.
I have a problem, the particles come out the back of my text. ive tried rotating but still comes out the back.
can I ask if you can do a tutorial on how to do a flaming text?
Thanks Andrew for a great tutorial, I have finished one could you please look at mine and let me know what you think, I would appreciate any feedback you may have.
Thanks,
Brad

You can have one object destroy another using this method, of course by playing with the settings. 🙂
Awesome!! 😀
