In part one of this two part tutorial we will take a look at modeling and animating the famous Newtons Cradle. As the newtons cradle is a demonstration of physics, so to is this tutorial. We’ll be using the physics engine to achieve the animation we are after. You’ll learn the basics of rigid body physics, the rigid body joint, and how to trouble shoot your way through problems that arise.
The physics engine is a very precise tool. As you will see in this this tutorial, tiny changes to the scene can have enormous effects on the physics.
In part two we will look at setting up the finished shot, adding HDR lighting, and rendering with motion blur.

Very nice! – it would be really helpful if you put up the blender file so I can inspect all the settings once again.
"I'm sure I got a few lady viewers out there"
This is a situation where the Array modifier would be very, very handy.
Well phooey! Lol when I got to where you told me and I type in -28, it goes back to zero.
Tried "period key" but the pendulum/ball keeps dropping on P……any suggestions for 2.77?
Hi! Im at 19:06 but I can't find the Gravity option in version 2.77. Its not there! Did they move it?
using 2.74, blender game, followed all settings in TUT
Lock rotation x&z does not work. Ball still falls down
what's wrong?
Your tutorial is pretty nice, yet I have trouble with completing it.
Once I create the sphere with it's wires and try to "hang" those on the base, they will connect, but the Rigid Body Joint will only "lead" those wires as part of a very much longer pendulum, whiches origin I can't see or figure. It doesn't attach to the base pointwise. Any help?
Nice tutorial! 🙂
American name for Full Stop
It has. Now you can find rigid body in blender render. It has got different options now though
period is the american name for a full stop
Set the 3D cursor to the new center point, then click on object>transform>origin to 3d cursor
Damn this blender must have being changed cant find the gravity thing on this?
I was making this for an hour. I was making it as well as I could. Then, for some reason, the first ball and the ropes fell if it was even a little in an angle. Well, I was desperate `cause I didn`t know what to do. I searched for an answer and then. Blender crashed… Well, guess I`ll start over. And what did I learn? Save every 5 minutes…
how do you make the balls move so fast ?
Wow my first game, not bad, i am going to try to create a toy air plane using the same principles now, thanks.
The "PERIOD" key…. the one just to the left of the "?" key.
you f**ker tell me what is piriyed key
what is pired key
@Normzor I know now thanks, I am British and call it a "full stop" lol.
It's the dot key (.)
What is the period key?
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII well i noticed the change when i made the gravity higher
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII OOOOH WOW, i feel dumb now lol XD
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII didnt happen to mine
@IIxXGhostTrainXxII yeah thank you, i saw that too, just wasnt sure if it was the same thing, but my cradle seems to work fine, just has taken me 2 days to render the animation lol XD
wheres the gravity tab? i cant find it in blender 2.62
Wonderful !
Hi how much I should take to learn this program ? sorry for the stupid question 😛
and btw you are awesome man your videos are GOOD
hope you the best
@bubufetz Simply move the camera while keyframing it's location.
@Superboy00110011 Have you tried raising the mass on the spheres? Another problem might be that the last two balls are too close or far together, just like he said, it's all about the tweaking.
