Which tip do you think will have the largest impact on you as a wedding photographer?
Valuable insights thanks
Having to watch this video because I know I'm going to kill my first wedding on Saturday but I've got NERVES. thank you for having videos like this. I've seen it probably 10 times to calm myself down
Excellent information John. Thank you .
Great video John. I am not a professional photographer but I enjoy taking photos at weddings as a hobby. I never interfere with the professional photographer and strive to get more candid photos and photos that are out of the ordinary. I do not charge for this service. I do offer my better shots to the bride and groom if they are interested at no cost. Do you often come by people taking photos for enjoyment at your weddings? Do you as a pro see this as a problem? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Gold tips.I agree with u about customer service.
People approach photographers: "hey if you did this, it would be a great photo"
Same people undergoing surgery: "Doctor knows best what to do".
I'll be doing a wedding photography in a week, it's my first time I'm really nervous wish me luck🥺
I am doing my first wedding next saturday. I am super grateful for your advice!
My cousin asked me to takes photos at her wedding in September next year (2022), but I never did professional photography and there's no other photographer. I did have the opportunity to be at another wedding where my girlfriend was taking pictures (she's a photographer and videographer), so that gave me some perspective. This video was really helpful, thank you so much! I do have a question tho, I'm saving for the Fujifilm XS-10 with a 16-80mm lens. Do you think that's a good lens for wedding photography or should I but another lens?
Great video, thanks for sharing
I disagree in one of the things he said. He said that he wants to run the wedding day, but it's really a day for the Bride and Groom. It is vital to be able to follow what the Bride and Groom want or else they are not going to have the best time because someone else is taking over their special day. For all wedding photographers, it is vital to come prepared, but please remember that you are working for the Bride and Groom and you want to make them happy, not just take control of the Bride's most special day. I may have misunderstood what he said, but it's important to work with what the Bride and Groom have planned, not usurpe their plan. Giving suggestions is probably great but not to the point of changing their whole plan.
Liked for the horderves story alone! Enjoyed the video. Thank you!
I'm going to have my first photography wedding in just for days, my neighbor ask me to take a photo of them. I'm so nervous on what to do so I searched on YT and found your channel, I felt relieve watching your vids.
The great thing is you're so likeable…your advice is genuine , thank you
Wow..great tips and well explained!
I am new to photography I am interested in wedding photography I want you to recommend the DSLR camera I should buy…. Thanks you
I shoot with fuji too 🙂
Shots that are not on the photo list are not covered in the pricing that has been negotiated. This is the only answer needed for all the requests for more photos, and these questions should be taken to the wedding planner, etc. Do people walk up to the caterer and ask for something not on the menu? Do they ask the florist for more flowers? Come on, man.
Have My First Wedding Tomorrow 🙂
LMFAO……FIRST wedding?? "first" indicates there are more than one. Are we to expect a follow-up video for "Your next wedding"?
This is great, my friend asked me if I could be her wedding photographer, im a little overwhelmed. I have never done portraits or anything really with people. I'm more of a landscape and astrophotography kind of gal. So this video helps so much. The wedding is in 3 weeks so I best get to practicing street/portrait photography.
I just realized that you were in NC lol
If you want to practice shooting weddings just show with your cameras and crash weddings and ask to second shoot for free. lol
You nailed it all the way to focusing and recomposing:-) Several good tips that I certainly will try out! Thanks!
Thank you so much for this, John. Weddings are on the horizon for me, and I've been doing street photography for the challenge of owning my camera in the moment. I'm hooked on Fuji jpeg point and shoot, but will definitely go raw when someone's handing me a paycheck. Your content is like a masterclass. Your tips about f stop and auto focus were great for me. Thanks, man!
…nobody teaches this and it's soooo frustrating to me. I know my way around a camera pretty well, but some of these more technical types of tricks and effects are things I still have yet to conquer and really figure out. THANK YOU soooo much for doing this for us!! I would sure give the world for you to also do a couple of videos teaching us how to photograph sparkler exits, light trails with wedding reception dance photos, how to photograph those cigar smoke photos of the guys on wedding day, and how to get that hair spray shot when the bride is getting ready. I'd also love to learn how to do some of those trick photos that so many of you do on wedding days – the reflection, shooting through things, bokeh lights, ring shots with an extra fun flair, etc. A super fun photographer that does a lot of this stuff is Jason Martin with Concept Photography. This guy has some super cool photography tricks and effects and I still have yet to figure out how he does a lot of them.
YES, I have the gear (Sony A9 + lenses) the rest, I'll be watching
focus and recompose : GOD TIER it make your life so much easier, you don't have to spend hours moving your flipping focus point, you focus, recompose and boom thats it
moving my fp take way longer (maybe cause of older gear) than composing after focusing
Love this video. Not only learnt to be a organized photographer, but also learnt how to be a boss of your business while still being professional!
Tip #1 Don't go Manual. Remember. Weddings are fast pace. So you don't want to missed a shot. Try setting your camera on Aperture Priority with Auto ISO and a Minimum Shutter Speed of 250. Tip#2 Go Manual. Yes. You read that right. There are certain times you need to go Manual. like shooting details and when you're using flash. Tip #3. Put that Settings that you have in a program. Like If you're a Sony Shooter. There is this 1, 2, 3. that you can see on top of your camera. I set to Aperture Priority and dial all my settings then program it to 1. So that I can go to Manual easily without AUTO ISO. ( Because if you set to Aperture Priority with Auto ISO. The moment you go to Manual the ISO is still in Auto. That's the reason why I program it to 1 ). Tip#4 Set the back dial as your Exposure compensation and adjust from there. If you like to under exposed or over exposed.
Goodluck on your new settings and happy shooting. BTW. set your ISO to the highest possible number.
I created a honey book account last week and used the free trial. How can I use the 50% discount code you offer
Can you make a video for street photography?
These are such great tips! Especially stopping down! I just learned to be intentional about this and it has helped me improve group photos!
too many talking, 3/4 of the video, sooo annoying,
I couldn't find your "Behind the Scenes" video on Patreon even after using your link below and after I signed up. Is there something I'm missing? Love your practical yet informative videos!
I am super super nervous. I am shooting my first wedding this weekend and I’ve been so swamped with my 9-5 and finishing up editing for 10 plus photo projects I’m working on. I’ve been watching your content and it seems like a lot to take in. Any suggestions on how I should move forward?
Thank you for uploading this video! I am currently in the process of looking for my first wedding.
One thought I had was approach my list as more of a Storyboard that is the basic generic story of the day, but also gives room for the couple to tell me what they want done as well. That's just how my brain works…😋
Best pieces of advice ever! Subscribed 🙂
Doing my first wedding this saturday, this video is full on point! 🙂 Thank you!
You're the perfect yt channel cause ima be shooting with fujifilm-s1
brutal truth at the beginning and the end, great points
your videos are top notch and so helpful. I have been in school/dance/group photography for 40 years and let one of my long term customers talk me into photographing her son's wedding. I've been watching your videos and taking notes to be sure that the day goes well and that they get great memories that they will enjoy for years to come.
I’m literally scared because I keep getting people wanting me to weddings but I’m not comfortable with that. It’s so hard to find someone to shadow
I think I remember you saying you don't do patreon anymore but I checked anyway because I'd still pay to see your family session videos. Any chance you'll ever bring them to youtube?
